We are currently seeking a driven individual to join Pearson Finance Services as part of the Financial Control & Reporting team. The activities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the preparation and submission of statutory accounts for UK entities to timetables which are compliant with FRS101. This includes preparing an extended trial balance, detailed supporting working papers and disclosure notes;
  • Preparation of audit requests in advance of audit teams arriving on site to ensure all information is provided to deadlines;
  • Provide responses to onsite audit queries, providing required information and obtaining explanations;
  • Assist with the submission of Prime (Pearson's Group Consolidation finance system) reporting and reviewing of statutory information packs;
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis / production of reports as requested to support accurate reporting and support business, group and tax decisions;
  • Assist investigations into any impact to the Group of new or changes to existing Financial Reporting Standards;
  • Prepare and review SOX testing;
  • Review and approve journals ensuring they maintain relevant back up and are correctly coded;
  • Ensure timing and classification of entries are correct and that accounting treatment within business units is consistent and ensure that corporate policies and procedures are consistently applied;
  • Completion of finance related projects as identified;
  • Contribute to team effort and assist co-workers as needed to balance workloads;
  • Help to create a work atmosphere conducive to a high degree of integrity and teamwork;
  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and innovative solutions and communicate these to the manager;
  • Take proactive involvement in determining and implementing best practices; and
  • Ensure all processes are kept well-documented.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have sound technical accounting knowledge, excellent communication skills and strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Understanding of materiality and ability to prioritise across competing agendas;
  • Understanding of financial control processes and functions;
  • Leverage of analytics and business intelligence tools to provide accurate and timely information for management decision making;
  • Experience using Oracle and Hyperion systems and Smartview tools viewed favourably;
  • Demonstration of performance against targets and key performance indicators and an ability to focus on value-added activities;
  • Resilient character with an experience in a service delivery environment and strong stakeholder management skills preferable;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with both finance and non-finance professionals;
  • Part qualified accountant with relevant experience in audit and preparation of statutory account preparation;
  • Knowledge of FRS101 and IFRS;
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel (v-lookups, sum-ifs, pivot tables, macros etc.); and
  • A self-starter who is motivated to work under own initiative when required
