The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson offers dynamic teacher licensing and performance assessment solutions. Our custom teacher licensure testing programs are 100 percent aligned to state standards. We also provide a wide variety of teacher licensure testing services such as test development, administration,and scoring. We work in a collaborative environment and are passionate about education.

The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson works with multiple partners, including other Pearson groups, to develop and maintain highly scalable Web applications. These applications share information between Pearson groups, customers, and clients. Development and testing follow the agile methodology.

Position Summary The Business Systems Analyst is a key facilitator that works closely with internal and external stakeholders, department and program leads, and software development teams who displays a passion for delivering business value through customer experiences and systems analysis and implementations. As an integral team member of the IT organization, the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for evaluating business drivers and technology requirements for assessment products and applications. This role serves as a liaison between business units and IT, is both the business requirements and systems specifications source-of-truth, and is responsible for driving necessary business communication. The Business Systems Analyst develops requirements that are written unambiguously, clearly and concisely such that they are implementable, understandable, testable and traceable by a software team. A strong desire to understand current and future business needs at a detailed level is required to be successful in this role. In this capacity, the Business Systems Analyst is also a leader for change and process improvement.

The Business Systems Analyst will:

Work with business users and stakeholders including project managers, client services program teams, and business support staff to:

  • Organize and facilitate project-related meetings and sessions, including to elicit and confirm requirements.
  • Communicate using a variety of methods such as text, diagrams, prototypes, story mapping, user stories and use cases
  • Prepare and deliver system specifications to applications development teams.
  • Work closely with IT application development personnel, working effectively in multiple delivery models (onsite, outsource, offshore), as appropriate.
  • Provide estimates for project requirements-related activities.

Additionally, for some projects the Business Systems Analyst may:

  • Contribute to creation of test cases to ensure requirements and user scenarios are being adequately tested and acceptance criteria is appropriate.
  • Work with publications and communications groups with authoring and/or proofreading end user documentation as needed.
  • Perform or assist with in acceptance testing, training, operational readiness activities, and support to ensure a complete application service is successfully delivered to the business.


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in a Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, technical discipline or equivalent technical work experience.
  • IT professional with a minimum of 2 years business analysis experience.
  • Experience with software requirements elicitation, analysis and documentation, and requirements confirmation, including in an agile environment.
  • Proven ability to learn new business domains and technical applications.
  • Experience with web-based systems.

Skills and Desired Experience:

  • Strong technical, conceptualization, analytic, and communication skills including the ability to facilitate interactive sessions with business/functional personnel.
  • Ability to work with a variety of business users including technical and non-technical staff.
  • Motivated, self-directed and able to prioritize.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams, including instances where teams span multiple business units, locations or countries, and/or utilizes 3rd-party (offshore) resources.
  • Proven ability to navigate projects with different solution teams at once.
  • Experience with agile methodology.
