Every day, all over the world, FCDO Services (formerly FCO Services) work on mission-critical technology and construction projects for government-level customers, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Our projects are as impressive as they are wide-ranging – anything from renovating and rewiring a centuries-old embassy to designing and constructing a new secure overseas site.
Given the kind of high-level work we do, our people have to be true specialists – particularly in areas like procurement. After all, as Category Lead, you’ll head up a team that sources goods, services and works for secure government construction projects across continents. You’ll be at the heart of that, translating our business strategy into an effective procurement strategy that pushes our work forward.
Pull on your knowledge to push global security projects
You’re experienced when it comes to procurement within Estates. You’ve got a finger on the pulse of business trends, and extensive knowledge of supply chains. And you’re ready to share all that with your team. You’ll advise senior management on new trends and ways to work. You’ll lead the way and provide advice that enables your team to manage their transactions and relationships more effectively. And you’ll provide management support on our biggest projects and wider market opportunities, helping us succeed at the most critical moments.
Use your people skills to protect people everywhere
This is vital work: procurement for projects that defend the UK’s interests, and its citizens, at home and overseas. With high stakes and high-level customers, it’s vital we keep to our customer promise, to be reliable, responsive, and build relationships. You’ll be key to that in your procurement strategy, making sure we deliver every time. A natural leader, you’ll be good with people – both inside and outside your team. You’ll develop commercial relationships with key contacts, so that we get the best value for money from the most trusted suppliers. Plus, you’ll mentor other staff and work with senior stakeholders in our business to make sure everyone understands and supports your procurement strategy.
Give us your expertise and give yourself the best future
There’s plenty we’ll expect from our new Category Lead. Specialist experience of the category. Strategic knowhow. Effective leadership. Independent drive. The creative spark to push us to better things. It all sounds like a lot – but the reality is, you’ll get a lot back too. That starts with great benefits, including flexible working, an on-site nursery, a salary-related pension, and more. And finally, most importantly, there’s the sense of pride. At the end of every day, you’ll know that you’ve contributed to broader work that protects people, assets, and information all over the world. In short, it’s your job, bigger.
All our employees have to be security cleared before being appointed, so you will need to undergo a vetting process as part of your application. This role requires you to go through Developed Vetting (DV). You can find out more about vetting on our website.
It takes a diverse team to protect a diverse world.
The vital work we do takes an incredible community of colleagues, with different skills, backgrounds, cultures and identities. We support every individual, so that you always know you’re welcome and valued. It’s what makes us a Disability Confident employer. And a Stonewall Diversity Champion. And Employers for Carers. And it’s how you know you’re joining an inspiring, inclusive organisation.
