Job Description

The role of Category Sourcing Manager is to execute, in conjunction with Information Technology & Services (IT&S), the approach and execution plan for strategic outsourcing and supplier relationship management for the Workplace Services category of IT spend. This work includes assisting in the restructuring, competition, and completion of the annual IT purchase volume for the managed services and participating in the supplier management processes. This encompasses all commercial aspects from the initial selection of Suppliers to their effective integration into the IT organization which includes executing against BP’s overall outsourcing strategy, participating in a supplier governance model, monitoring all outsourced activities, assisting IT areas to ensure service delivery is effective and within defined boundaries, and coordinating with each IT functional area on their sourcing requirements and expectations. This role will support the Category Sourcin g Director in any contract disputes or negotiations.

You will work across senior stakeholders in the IT&S functions and will be expected to operate effectively as a senior Indirect Procurement professional with expertise in the procurement of Workplace Services, which includes; Service Desk, Field Services, End User Computing, Print, Audio & Visual Services, Unified Communications and Mobiles. The Team is also responsible for providing front-line support (in conjunction with our Group Procurement Infrastructure Team) in designing and deploying our transactional activities into IT Sourcing, and to work in partnership with the Global Business Services (GBS) function to ensure successful delivery.


Key accountabilities are to:

Execute against the strategy and annual plan for the category that includes:

  • business priorities
  • key contract renewals
  • improvement areas for key vendors
  • process improvements
  • optimisation of BP volumes and category expertise
  • preferred supplier adoption
  • savings target
  • Develop & execute appropriate supplier governance to effectively manage third parties, participating in vendor relationship governance meetings including performance review and obligations tracking and value leakage prevention.
  • Maintain vendor group-wide performance management materials such as metrics and score cards to drive desired vendor behaviour / required outcomes
  • Execute the full sourcing process which includes development of scope, supplier selection, commercial negotiation, and contract execution
  • Ensure that Service Levels are measured, reviewed, and reported on correctly
  • Modify Service Levels and create new Service Levels over the terms of the agreements
  • Ensure the Indirect Procurement common processes are implemented, used and continually improved
  • Coach and develop less experienced Indirect Procurement staff
  • Participate in company networks, sharing information, best practices and lessons learned
  • Interface where relevant with the Global Business Services team (GBS)
  • Lead procurement projects including the negotiation of Hosting contracts & commercial terms consistent with maximizing business value for IT&S
  • Build and manage supplier relationships
  • Maximise benefits to BP as a whole by leveraging enterprise-wide spend with each vendor and contributing to the segments/functions being informed on vendor choice for new contract awards
  • Maximise the value of contracts throughout BP, extending suppliers’ service across the organisation to drive additional value


We are looking for candidates with a good first degree and or CIPS (or similar). Other key requirements are:

  • Experience of sourcing Workplace Services
  • Experience in global or multi country service environments
  • Experience running large sourcing activities, including drafting and running RFPs and drafting and negotiating contracts
  • Experience working in IT Outsourcing / IT Operations / IT Procurement
  • Basic vendor management skills with some experience in services procurement, vendor management and applying industry best practice
  • Experience in articulating requirements in work orders
  • Demonstrable experience in Fixed Pricing, Firm Pricing, T&M, and Staff Augmentation constructs
  • Ability to articulate requirements in contract ready language
  • Ability to interpret contract language and develop a position
  • Specific experience of operating within a global matrixed organisation - with a proven track record of influencing large teams of a diverse nature
  • Specific and in depth understanding of the category supply market and value drivers
  • Excellent negotiation skills with experience in negotiating multi-million commercial IT contracts
  • Ability to engage mid to senior business and IT personnel in an influential manner, to win over stakeholder consensus
