The successful applicant will lead transformational change across the whole of the Ministry of Defence. The Defence Transformation programme (covering People, Digital, Acquisition Reform and Support) is entering a key period, in which the foundations have been laid and the challenge now is to deliver and embed change. You will need to build and retain support for the programme from across the organisation and in the rest of Government, while remaining focused at all times on the operational outputs of Defence that keep our nation safe.
Beyond this, the COO will have responsibility for the operating model for the Department, which is complicated by the size and complexity of Defence, while delivering a range of corporate functions including communications, legal and health and safety.
We are looking for an outstanding, visible leader with experience in a complex organisation, who can demonstrate a successful record of implementing large scale business transformation.
You will need to be confident engaging with a wide range of very senior stakeholders in the Ministry of Defence, wider Government and industry, while navigating complex and politically sensitive governance arrangements. You will need to combine strong business and financial acumen with the ability to engage and inspire our diverse workforce in a compelling way.
