Firstly, a bit about us
St Andrew’s is the UK’s leading mental healthcare charity with an excellent and well-deserved reputation as a provider of specialist mental healthcare, and a top 20 charity overall.  We have a multi-disciplinary team of over 4,500 staff who deliver world-class, innovative and holistic care each day across our five locations.

As a charity, all of our profits are re-invested into new services and new facilities, a legacy which has carried on through our 178 year history.  Today we proudly continue to build excellent mental healthcare services – with Europe’s largest adolescent unit recently opened.  And because we’re independent, we have the flexibility to make a real difference in the world of mental health.  Joining us is your chance to make a big contribution to the lives of some of society’s most vulnerable people.

The Role and Person
Applications are invited for posts of Clinical Teaching Fellow in Medical Education. These unique posts provide rich opportunities to develop interests and expertise in medical education whilst broadening clinical experience in a specialist, mental health setting.

In the coming year, the Academic Department will be supporting more than 500 student placements, across medicine, nursing, health and social care. There will be considerable opportunities for clinical teaching and educational activity.
The Clinical Teaching Fellowships are bespoke posts, tailored to interests and career intentions. Two - Four sessions are protected for educational activity and six to eight for clinical activity (with regular, consistent supervision for both elements).

You will be actively involved in supporting medical student placements. One day per week will focus on ward based teaching with small groups of students. The second day can be set aside for project work, linked to areas of interest. You will be fully supported to undertake a funded Pg.Cert. in Medical Education.

Clinical work will be within one of our specialist IPU’s e.g. Men’s Secure, Women’s DBT and Brain Injury. We promote parity of esteem for physical and mental healthcare – you would continue to develop your clinical profile in ways relevant to your intended career.

You will be joining us at a very exciting time where we have specialist IPU’s that can really specialise in the treatment of our patients and create truly personalised care in order to improve patient outcomes and care.  To make this a success we need people who have a passion for improving patient outcomes and people who want more autonomy to make decisions that will help improve patient care and lives.
