As one of Britain’s intelligence agencies, we unlock the complex world of communications to keep our nation safe. We work closely with MI5 and MI6, our partners in the intelligence community, to safeguard Britain’s people, interests and businesses from various threats. Think cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. It’s challenging, varied and meaningful work that you simply won’t find anywhere else.
In the Computer Network Operations team, you’ll carry out work of national importance that will directly support the whole range of GCHQ’s cyber capabilities. You may be developing capabilities to access the computers of a terrorist group, or carrying out operations to retrieve vital online clues about the location and identity of members of an organised crime ring. Alternatively, you may be carrying out vulnerability research in support of national security objectives or by supporting military operations across the full spectrum of cyber activities.
While the role is challenging, our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance. Wherever possible, we look to accommodate reduced hours or job share options balanced against business needs.
We are looking for individuals from all backgrounds who have the knowledge required for the acts of defending information systems and networks, including penetration testing, vulnerability analysis, intrusion detection and analysis of malicious code. With skills in network operations, you enjoy problem-solving, keeping up with changing technologies and want to make a real difference to the UK.
You have either a 2:2 degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant STEM subject (Natural Science can be considered a related/combined discipline); or a Bachelor’s or Masters’ degree incorporating ethical hacking, digital forensics or information security.
A thorough understanding of networks and protocols, including experience of security and protecting software and networks.
