Applications are invited for a Consultant post based at Furness General Hospital. You will join an expanding department of 12 Consultants, 4 Associate specialists, and 1 FY2 doctor in ICU during hours.

Job Description

You will participate in a 1 in 7 on call-rota for ICU. All the post holders are expected to cover theatre sessions at Furness General Hospital and sometimes Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the department at a time we are going through significant service transformation change as the Trust expands their maternity facilities at Furness General Hospital.

Furness General Hospital is a pleasant, friendly hospital on the south coast of the Lake District. Westmorland General Hospital is located on the outskirts of the popular Lakeland town of Kendal. The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust provides undergraduate medical training for Lancaster Medical School students, as well as academic/research links with Lancaster University.

Both hospitals are situated in areas of outstanding natural beauty, which offer superb outdoor and recreational activities close to the Lake District. There is access to the M6 motorway via A590 and a direct rail link to Manchester and its airport from both sites.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, North Western Deanery and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. UHMBFT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical Schools MBChB degree programme.

Interview expenses will be paid from point of entry to the UK

You must hold full GMC with a licence to practice and entry on the Specialist Register or in the receipt of CCT within six months of interview
