Position Overview:

The Content Developer leads and manages the content developmentfor a component of a product. Working in-house as part of a project team, theContent Developer:

  • executesplans for the writing, editing, and production of content throughout itsdevelopment
  • collaboratesas necessary with other team members on the instructional design and developmentof prototypes and briefs
  • implementsnew workflows and tools for the continuous improvement of content creation
  • providesappropriate support and training for team members, writers and editors

Main Duties andResponsibilities:


  • Supportthe Content Development Manager and Portfolio Manager in the generation ofideas for concept development and prototype creation
  • Supportthe Content Development Manager in the instructional design plan for the fullproduct or service
  • Enhanceplans and briefs with appropriate detail and instruction in advance of vendorcontracting
  • Whennecessary, brief external experts, consultants and/or Series Editors on theproduct or service

Business Case Stage

  • Developor contract development of Proof of Concept content, prototypes, and iterationsof these at request of Content Development Manager or Portfolio Manager
  • SupportContent Development Manager in forecasting budgets and schedules

Product Development Stage

  • Reviewand understand the approved instructional design, syllabus, courseconfiguration, content map, budget, and schedule from the Portfolio Manager andSenior Content Producer
  • SupportContent Development Manager in development of comprehensive writing briefs andother project documents; keep documents up to date and communicate changes towriters and editors
  • Contractand brief writers, editors, and/or editorial vendors for assigned componentsusing standard vendor agreements; supply them with comprehensive writingbriefs, content templates, and templates for art and media briefs
  • Providecontinuous and consistent support to writers, editors, and/or editorial vendorsthroughout the writing and content development process; assist them in the useof content creation tools (standard and proprietary) and content managementtools
  • Reviewquality of all contracted work; provide feedback to writers, editors, and/oreditorial vendors on any recurring issues related to content creation; whennecessary under deadline, bring quality of content up to standard throughdevelopment and revision
  • Collaborateclosely with in-house designers, art and text researchers, rights managers, andmedia producers before and during all phases of content production
  • Respondto Portfolio Manager queries about budgets and schedule during all phases ofcontent creation
  • Stay upto date with trends in second language acquisition pedagogy and assessment;stay up to date in ELT market needs and trends; stay up to date with Englishlanguage learning market needs and trends


Supervise freelancers and vendors through continuousmonitoring of quality and deadlines; Give frequent and comprehensive feedback

  • University/College degree in linguistics,foreign language, or related field,
  • Qualification in teaching English as asecond/foreign language (Cert or Diploma in TEFL or TESOL) strongly desired


  • Soundbusiness and technical acumen, with the ability to navigate a complex andhighly matrixed organization effectively, establishing effective communicationlines to multiple stakeholders
  • Abilityto juggle multiple priorities and deadlines, remaining pragmatic andresults-focused
  • Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills

Prior Experience

  • Publishing/Editorialand teaching experience in English as a second or foreign language or inforeign languages
  • Experiencein managing freelance writers and editors
