Job Description

The Cost Engineer is responsible for all aspects of standard cost engineering functions including, but not limited to, cost controls, analyzes, forecasting, cash flow, reporting, benchmarking, and interactions with the following teams: Projects, Turnaround (TAR) Procurement and Contracts, and Finance (site FC&A and GBS). This summary is meant to be an overall job description and does not include all tasks that might be required for the position.

  • Provide comprehensive and accurate cost reporting utilizing data from both BP systems and contractor supplied information including appropriate level of analysis to ensure a "no surprise" approach.
  • Closely monitor cost performance against realistic targets to ensure that objectives and key performance indicators are met.
  • Review contractors' invoices for accuracy and ensure they are in accordance with contracts. This work includes use and understanding of BP's SAP, Maximo, and TRACK systems.
  • Work with contractors to develop and maintain appropriate and accurate cash flows and cost forecasts, and interface with the appropriate Project/Program Managers and TAR Execution Leads.
  • Manage BP Costs tracking tool to ensure compliance with original estimate.
  • Manage change control process.
  • Support engineering, procurement and construction activities in the field.
  • Identify, analyze, and respond to project opportunities, risks, and uncertainties.
  • Utilize the work breakdown structure to assign costs, including management of work orders.
  • Monitor and update contractor and vendor purchase order values in the BP systems.
  • Review all charges for consistency and proper assignment.
  • Manage accruals to provide accurate reporting of Work in Place (WIP).
  • Support validation of contractor field progress.
  • Ensure alignment between Master Control Schedule (Primavera P6) and project cash flows.
  • Apply site cost controls policies, procedures, processes, guidelines, tools, and templates.
  • Maintain compliance with BP Published Guidelines and Common Process as it relates to cost controls.
  • Support team with stage gated process.
  • Prepare final cost reports. Work with site resources to complete all closeout requirements including lessons learned exercises.Support continuous improvement efforts for the cost team and assigned controls team.

  • Required: Bachelor Degree
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Engineering Discipline

  • Required: 4+ Years of relevant work experience
  • Preferred: Work experience in a refinery
