Data Centre Operations Managers are responsible for the operations of secure and highly available computing platforms, servers, and networks. They, install, maintain, upgrade, and continuously improve DWP's operating environment.

  • Our APIs receive 173 million requests, and we spin up 280,000 AWS servers every month.
  • The cabling in the 2 On Premise Hosting Datacentres in Corsham and Farnborough added together is the equivalent to the distance between our Digital Hubs in Blackpool and Newcastle (over 150 miles(

As our new Data Centre Manager you'll help manage Data Centre Operations, by providing management and coordination of activities across our Farnbourough and Corsham sites.

This will include working closely with 3rd party providers and different teams within DWP to provide a high quality service, and keeping us right on security and compliance requirements.

You will work with infrastructure specialists and engineers to sure services are delivered and used as required. You'll also provide 2nd/3rd line support for Data Centre incidents, problems and changes to solutions and services.

We'll also rely on your expertise for any other specialist technical support in your area.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

Change Management

  • You can deal with high impact, complex change requests.
  • You ensure that release policies, procedures and processes are applied.

Problem Management

  • You make sure that the right actions are taken to investigate, resolve and anticipate problems, and achieve great user outcomes
  • You coordinate the team to investigate problems, implement solutions and take preventative measures.
  • You can dissect a problem to its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes.
  • You can troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities.
  • You take accountability of issues that occur and is proactive in searching for potential problems.

IT Infrastructure

  • You design, implement, administer and support infrastructure technologies, solutions and services such as: compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructures, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including PaaS, SaaS.

You'll join us in our data centre based at Farnborough, although candidates should note there will be periodic travel to the Corsham Data Centre as a part of this role.
