The Deputy Director for Debt Services is a key operational role and will have accountability for leading Debt Operational teams, Debt Telephone Centres, Enforcement & Specialist teams, Operational Support units and Debt Technical Offices.

Job Description

Role responsibilities and tasks


  • Contributing to the leadership of Customer Services and HMRC
  • Corporately running the DS business in line with the Customer Services and HMRC ambition
  • Providing visible people leadership and advocating the PaceSetter programme as a way of working
  • Ensuring effective delivery of all aspects of operations (including customer understanding) within the funding envelope
  • Driving continuous improvement across operations (as part of the PaceSetter programme)
  • Building effective working relationships within DS and across Customer Services and HMRC
  • ·Providing the agreed support services for Business Tax, Personal Tax and Benefits and Credits as set out in the Service Level Agreements in the end to end customer journey
  • Contract management of specific debt service agreements such as Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) agreements and Auctioneers contracts
  • External to HMRC stakeholder management including the largest businesses regarding their debts and Other Government Departments (OGDs) such as the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) regarding the commercial interests of the United Kingdom
