Qualifications Development Manager

The General Qualifications team is responsible for leading the strategy for academic qualifications - primarily GCSE and A level and international GCSE and international A level - and for providing outstanding support for our customers.
You will be part of the GQ Development, Training and Non-Core team covering subjects like Religious Studies, Computer Science, Physical Education, Music, Design & Technology and Art & Design, managing our GCSE and A level qualifications through their lifecycle; from inception, through development and into the day-to-day provision of support for our qualifications. You’ll work with teachers, and stakeholders at Pearson and within education.
The Development Manager has responsibility for delivering outstanding customer-focused products(including specifications, Sample assessment materials (SAMs) and associated support materials) for academic qualifications in select subject areas for the non-core team. They will also facilitate and/or lead on cross department activities related to accreditation of qualifications, working closely with GQ Product leadership team, GQ Assessment division and the Accreditation and Standards division.
During the year there will be more emphasis on one area than the other depending on what the priorities are for the division.
Manage the design, development and accreditation for market winning academic qualifications and any associated teaching and learning materials in select subject areas.
●Project manage the research, design and development of qualifications from concept to launch in select subject areas.
●Lead on the scoping of projects, including leading and facilitating effective collaboration with colleagues across the business to define the design of qualifications to produce market-winning products for select subject areas.
●Manage the submission and accreditation/sign-off process for select subject areas, including reviewing materials, ongoing content research and development to ensure they are fully in line with teacher, learner and Ofqual/wider stakeholder requirements.
●Work collaboratively with colleagues across the business, drawing upon the various technical and customer expertise available and, where necessary, liaising with external agencies and stakeholders to inform the design and development of market-winning qualifications for select subject areas.
●To develop and manage specific elements of product surround (e.g. extra assessment materials (EAMs), student exemplar work, teaching and learning materials, training materials for the national training programme), in collaboration with colleagues where appropriate.
●With colleagues, recruit, train, manage and evaluate writers and subject specialists, ensuring that they are on-brief and deliver content to the requisite quality on time.
●Work with the assessment teams to inform the set up and support the first assessment delivery of new qualifications in select subject areas.
●Develop, own and implement amendments for the life cycle of the select subject areas.
2. Accreditation/approval of qualifications
●Facilitate Ofqual and DfE consultations, working with the subject and portfolio teams.
●Lead on the development of the general assessment strategy during qualification reform and also lead on the template for the subject strategy.
●Work with subject and portfolio teams on approaches to ensure design and development of market-winning qualifications that meet both customer and regulator/stakeholder requirements.
●Support the teams to ensure the appropriate quality assurance checks are carried out to ensure qualifications are submission-ready with sign-off by key stakeholders and compliant with processes.
●Lead on the strategy for scaling-up for full development, including identification and cultivation of key talent, recruiting, inducting and training of internal (Product Developers) and external team (writers, reviewers).
●Contribute to learning and development plan for the department.
●Manage the wider aspects of developments when scaling-up for full developments, e.g. covers, editing, typesetting and templates.
3. Processes and Regulations
●Work on defining and improving development processes of qualifications and associated support materials.
●Ensure that GQ Product is compliant with regulatory processes and that these processes are fit-for-purpose. Including liaising with the Accreditation and Standards division on regulatory matters, with Head of GQ Development.
●Manage the amendments log and advice on regulatory issues relating to these amendments.
●Collaborate with Heads of to track the progress of developments and accreditation.
