Job Description

We will see as much innovation in the next eight years as we have seen in the last 25” Electric Power Research Institute

Retail energy markets are poised on the brink of dramatic change, with the advent of smart meters, electric vehicles, battery storage technology, and local renewable energy supply. But public trust in retail energy markets is low. There is a crucial role for Ofgem in facilitating the transition to a greener, more flexible future, but also in ensuring that people have confidence in energy markets as they evolve, and that the transition is inclusive and benefits everyone. This role is central to meeting that  challenge.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this role will be accountable for setting the strategic direction for the future of retail energy markets, aligned to the overall organisational strategy. They will be part of the senior leadership team within the Consumers and Markets Directorate, collectively responsible for the strategic coherence and operational excellence of the Directorate. You will also work collaboratively with the wider executive team across Ofgem to drive forward the organisational agenda and ensure a positive difference for consumers.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding communicator, able to build collaborative relationships both internally, across government and with external organisations. You will be a visible and inspiring leader, able to attract and retain high performing, diverse teams as well as being able to set strategy, welcoming innovation and working at pace, within a complex environment. Ideally you will have gained experience within a regulator, regulated industry or within the energy sector.

Ofgem are always happy to consider flexible working, this role is available on a full-time, part-time or job-share basis.
