Education Specialist - Science/STEM focus

Pearson prides itself on employing state of the art consultants that focus on accelerating instructional improvement in the area of Science and STEM in conjunction with US Learning Services Science core offerings. Consulting with district personnel and school faculty, the Education Specialist will present effectively the Science/STEM services with engaging and interactive activities to meet identified needs and also implement research-based leadership and instructional strategies.

The Education Consultant is the onsite representative of US Learning Services helping to initiate lasting change in districts and schools by delivering the Science/STEM professional development, Change of Practice, and Job-embedded services. The Education Specialist provides individual and group support for district personnel and school faculty to incorporate effective strategies into classroom practice.

Scope and Impact of Job

Support customer engagements to include delivery of training on print, digital or blended programs.

Lead Pearson messaging, product delivery, customer adoption of Pearson products and current educational pedagogy and deliver services as intended by Pearson Development.

Deliver winning presentations to PreK-12 audiences to include teacher, parents, district administrators, and adoption committees a the local, regional or state level.

Personalize Pearson provided training resources.

Have a strong knowledge of education theory and market trends in assigned content areas i.e. literacy, math, science, humanities or intervention.

Routinely engage the customer for planning purposes with workshop delivery and/or with guidance, lead internal and external customer team meetings.

Have extensive knowledge of industry and Pearson best practices to include district, state and national standards, as dictated by the customer engagement.

Maintain certification on Pearson core products and fulfill assignments based on said certification

Engage in overnight travel to deliver training and services at the assigned customer sites.

Collaborate with other internal Pearson teams, which include sales and services stakeholders, to ensure customer success.

Proactively work with management on renewal efforts for our clients.

Submit regular time cards and expense reports in conjunction with Pearson Travel and Expense policy.

Possess problem solving skills and provided solutions and recommendations to increase Pearson profitability and efficiency.

Communicate effectively the expectations of STEM and how it impacts classroom instruction.

Strong background in science, mathematics and leadership.

Clear understanding of engineering concepts and design as it related to classroom instruction.

Provide STEM professional development for all content areas including exploration classes.

Develop and implement STEM lesson plans that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and state testing expectations.

Coordinate STEM lesson plans with other teachers to maximize collaboration and student learning.

Effectively implement STEM modules at a level that participants are able to implement information their classroom.

Provide support to the leadership team in areas of progress monitoring and implementation of STEM action plans.

Provide support in area of coaching and modeling lessons that support implementation of the STEM components in all content areas and exploration classes.

Clear understanding of how to analyze data and how to explain the data to the leadership team and staff.


Education and Experience

●BA/BS Degree

●Master’s Degree in Science/STEM or related field

●Minimum of five years in elementary, middle, and/or high school science/STEM classroom teaching experience

●Minimum of three years of experience with facilitating adult learning in K-12 settings in Science.

●Experience facilitating online courses preferred; openness to becoming skilled in online facilitation.

●Pearson Program Certification/s required including Product and JES (per hours aligned to Pearson’s Internal Training School)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

●Professional interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external customers.

●Deploying Research based coaching strategies for adult learners.

●Delivering well-planned and organized workshops.

●Delivering comprehensive engagements ranging from transactional to multi-day events.

●Ability to communicate workshop and service objectives effectively.

●Effective training and presentation skills.

●Strong knowledge of education theory and market trends in assigned content areas i.e. literacy, math, science humanities or intervention.

●Strong knowledge of PreK-12 best practices to include instructional strategies, education innovation (both print and digital) and district, state and national standards.

●Ability to identify key customer issues and request internal support to resolve to ensure customer success.

●Setting SMART goals for performance indicators, when applicable.

●Modeling authentic best practices in real world situations.

●Collaboration with / support of ALL learners and diverse perspectives.

●Completing certifications within the agreed upon timeframe.

●Communication of utilization risks to meet quantitative and qualitative customer engagement goals.

●Strong knowledge about background, history, climate and culture of customer.

●Knowledge of change management concepts as they relate to Pearson program content implementation including print and digital teacher resources and the ability to define and implement some change management planning needs for customers.
