Job Description

Whiting Clean Energy (WCE) is a 525MW combined cycle cogeneration facility. The facility consists of two GE 7FA gas turbine generators with accompanying heat recovery steam generators, one steam turbine generator, a demineralization water treatment unit and associated balance of plant equipment. The facility can produce 525MW of electricity for sale into the wholesale power market and 1.1MMlb/hr of high-pressure steam (1300 psig) for export to the Whiting Refinery.

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of electrical engineering and maintenance work at WCE. This role provides engineering support to the maintenance and operations teams and interfaces with several resources including the maintenance supervisor, engineers, specialists, craftsmen, and contractor personnel to support daily maintenance activities and strategy driven improvement projects. The Electrical Engineer is responsible for developing short and long range plans for electrical equipment that support the HSSE, availability and financial goals of the site. He or she accomplishes this through preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance and project upgrades.

  • Directs critical activities requiring electrical knowledge and expertise
  • Provides daily technical support to instrument and electrical technicians
  • Assists in planning and execution of turnaround (TAR) electrical activities
  • Provides technical input in determining priority and scope of equipment repairs
  • Leads root cause analysis for failure investigations for incidents related to electrical equipment
  • Analyzes equipment monitoring data and develops appropriate response to reliability issues
  • Reviews engineering projects and improvements to ensure compliance with company and industry standards
  • Completes engineering design and documentation for site improvement, TAR, and modification projects
  • Assists in developing and maintaining plant electrical engineering standards and electrical safety standards
  • Develops and manages reliability projects for electrical systems
  • Develops testing plans for critical electrical equipment and works with the maintenance supervisor in execution of the testing plans
  • Prepares engineering datasheets & documents and material/equipment specifications
  • Reviews supplier data, witnesses shop tests, and develops material requisitions as needed
  • Directs the efforts of design engineering and construction contractors
  • Maintains the site's electrical one-line diagrams
  • Maintains the site's electrical area classification drawings
  • Maintains the site's electrical process models (short-circuit and load flow)
  • Interfaces with the electrical transmission operator (NIPSCO) as needed to coordinate maintenance outages to maintain grid reliability



Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

A minimum of 5 years industrial (refining, petrochemical, power plant, water plant or manufacturing) experience
