We are looking for a part-time ESOL Lectuer to teach in the Communiaty and at our Ystrad Mynach campus. Teaching commitment will be 12 hours per week, with a working week of 18.5 hours. Interviews to be held on 2nd August 2017.

Job Description

Applicants are required to be educated to a recognised standard in relevant subject areas and to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at a grade C or above. A recognised teacher training qualification is desirable.

 

Purpose of the job

  • To prepare, deliver and manage effective learning strategies to ensure Learners attain agreed learning objectives/qualifications; to teach on a range of courses and at a range of levels

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 

Planning and Preparation

 

  • Establish and implement effective classroom teaching strategies
  • Ensure there is an appropriate Lesson Plan for every class
  • Ensure there is an appropriate Scheme of Work for each subject/module/unit
  • Effectively plan to meet the needs of learners with learning and/or disabilities
  • Provide a learning environment that produces high Learner expectations
  • Use a range of high quality learning resources
  • Where appropriate utilise and embed ILT teaching resources
  • Ensure the planning, delivery and management of teaching and Learning complies with the College Quality Assurance System
  • Actively participate in the preparation of Course/Learner Area/Departmental Self Assessment
  • Participate in the College Classroom Observation process
  • Actively participate in College quality reviews
  • Act as Course team leader if require with responsibility for monitoring and controlling the quality of the course or group of coursed. The course team leader will also be expected to compile a course file to record course management information.

 

 Delivery

 

  • Challenge and monitor poor learner attendance and lateness
  • Regularly review learner understanding of teaching objectives
  • Encourage and stimulate sound study habits
  • Make appropriate use of the Virtual Learning Environment to support delivery
  • Regularly evaluate Lesson Plans and Schemes of Work
  • Ensure lessons are well paced and stimulating
  • Monitor and support Learners in the management of their work files
  • Use contextual examples from Wales/Welsh culture where appropriate
  • Evaluate the outcomes of each session for content and learner development
  • Differentiate teaching to enable the different learning styles of learners to take place
  • Integrate Essential Skills knowledge into the delivery of lessons
  • To ensure that all learners receive appropriate enrichment activities and support services.

 

Assessment and Management

 

  • Plan, manage and review assessment on regular basis as a member of a Course Team
  • Ensure Learners have undertaken an Initial Assessment to establish a profile of skills and where appropriate identify Learner support requirements
  • Create an Individual Learning Plan based on the Initial Assessment
  • Ensure the Learner is aware of the purpose and process of assessment
  • Implement an appropriate Tracking system of learner progress
  • Plan an appropriate assessment schedule at course subject/module/unit level
  • Provide learners with structured, detailed and constructive feedback (both oral and written) within agreed timescales
  • Accurately record results of learner assessment
  • Use a range of appropriate assessment techniques
  • Regularly review with Learner progress against ILP
  • Regularly undertake tutorial progress reviews and produce Learner action plans

 

Relationships: Internal

  • Work with line manager to prioritise operational workload.
  • Effectively work with other Course Team members to develop courses as appropriate to meet local, industrial and commercial needs
  • Effectively liaise with Academic and Business Support colleagues within the Department
  • Take an active part as a nominee on College committees/work groups.
  • Regularly liaise with the Teacher and Learning Mentors to ensure high standards of teaching and Learning are maintained

 

Relationships: External

  • To participate in open days and parents evenings as requested
  • Liaise effectively with Employers, Careers Agencies, Universities, Awarding bodies and their representatives.
  • Liaise with parents / guardians (where appropriate)
  • To actively participate in the marketing and promotional activities.
