In Defra, we deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people’s lives. We are responsible for England’s environment, countryside and rural economy, the food and farming sectors and have a lead responsibility for protection from a wide range of natural threats and hazards. Defra is one of the lead departments in delivering a successful exit from the European Union (EU). Leaving the EU will fundamentally change the work we do and how we deliver it.
We are seeking an exceptional individual to jointly lead the EU and International Trade Directorate in Defra. This is a unique opportunity to drive the policy and negotiations across Defra’s agendas on the environment, agriculture, food and fisheries putting you at the forefront of EU Exit work in Government. You will lead your own teams and area of responsibility but work jointly with your fellow Director to lead the directorate as a whole.
We value diversity in skills and approach and require a commitment to staff engagement and leadership. The role will suit someone with good international and negotiations experience, a commitment to public service and civil service values, and an interest in the complexity of the political environment.
If you are an inspirational leader and an effective communicator who is adept at influencing across multiple groups of key internal and external stakeholders, then the position of EU International Trade Director could be the role for you.
