Financial Reporting Analyst

The Financial Analyst supports our School and Clinical Assessment divisions within Pearson Assessments. This resource will be a business partner to project managers and cost centre owners and their teams guiding them to improve financial and operational performance.

This individual will be joining a very active and dedicated team of professionals. We are looking for someone that is willing to take initiative, dive in head-first, and tackle the new and exciting challenges this current business environment has provided us.

Main activities/responsibilities:

  • Provide Business Partnering Support to the Assessments division in the analysis of technology related project costs including modelling and forecasting the financial impact of any changes to projects.
  • Investigating and explaining variances to budget, forecast and business cases. Review charges for appropriate accounting on a monthly basis.
  • Monthly delivery spend analysis. Standard variance/trend analysis. Highlight issues/concerns.
  • Requesting and inputting journals to reflect any changes to contracts.
  • Develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders to maximise customer service, including regular stakeholder meetings throughout the month end close, budgeting and forecasting cycles.
  • Working closely with project managers and cost centre owners providing updates on volumes and spending variances for month end and quarterly reforecasting.
  • Providing meaningful variance analysis on actual versus budgeted costs.
  • Assist with new team members in areas such as training and quality checking of deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and simplification.
  • Ensure all processes are followed and any changes are documented appropriately.
  • Adhere to PFS Governance procedures and ways of working.
  • Provide support to the wider FP&A team when required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a Finance/Accounting or related discipline preferable, however note that consideration given to candidates who have demonstrable knowledge of the areas listed below.
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience within an FP&A department.
  • Experience using Oracle and Hyperion systems and Smartview tools preferred.
  • Demonstrate consistent accuracy and timeliness.
  • Demonstrate strong adherence to controls and process.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Excel is essential.
  • Strong analytical mindset for modelling/ forecasting financial impact of change.
  • Need to have awareness and insight around materiality, seasonality, product/customer profitability, variability
  • Independent, Self-motivated, detail oriented and a desire to learn is essential.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, identifying and providing support to colleagues
  • Strong communication skills, ability to convey technical financial information to finance and non-finance professionals.
