The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all crime in Scotland; the investigation of deaths which require further explanation; and the investigation of complaints against the police.

Job Description


Please note that COPFS is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974).  All convictions whether they are spent or not, will be considered.


COPFS must also adhere to strict Civil Service and Cabinet Office Baseline Personnel Security Standards regarding nationality, identity and history verification rules.



Please note the main responsibilities, activities and duties of the role;


General Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

  • Preparation of cases for court
  • Dealing with telephone and public enquiries
  • Information processing (using internal IT systems)
  • Word Processing and keyboard work
  • Processing mail
  • Filing
  • Photocopying


Role Specific Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

There are also other duties which are distinct to the posts available in line with the requirements of the Fiscal Officer Role.


Essential Criteria

The above competencies form the key essential criteria for this post.


Candidates are also required to have passes in 5 standard grades/ National Level 5 (including English, all at grades 1-3 or A-C) or equivalent; or proven experience of general office work.


Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Information Technology
  • An understanding of the work of COPFS
  • A desire to work in the Criminal Justice Sector
