Clinical or Forensic Psychologist in Male Adult Mental Health - Low Secure.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Clinical or Forensic Psychologist with an interest in working with adults with mental health disorders to join our Low Secure Ward in the Men’s Service at our Essex site.  Ideally we are looking for an established and qualified psychologist but due to the site having a great support function the role could also consider a newly qualified psychologist looking for their first role at this level.

Firstly, a bit about us

St Andrew’s is the UK’s leading mental healthcare charity with an excellent and well-deserved reputation as a provider of specialist mental healthcare, and a top 20 charity overall.  We have a multi-disciplinary team of over 4,500 staff who deliver excellent, innovative and holistic care each day across our five locations.

As a charity, all of our profits are re-invested into new services and new facilities, a legacy which has carried on through our 178 year history.  Today we proudly continue to build excellent mental healthcare services – with Europe’s largest adolescent unit recently opened.  And because we’re independent, we have the flexibility to make a real difference in the world of mental health.  Joining us is your chance to make a big contribution to the lives of some of society’s most vulnerable people.

The role and person

You will be an HCPC registered Clinical or Forensic Psychologist (eligible for BPS Chartership) looking for an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in the exiting practice of clinical or forensic psychology. Experience as a DBT therapist will be an advantage.

Our goal is to deliver effective and evidenced based interventions that improve mental health and reduce risk. You will have the opportunity to apply specialist psychological skills in the assessment, formulation and treatment of adults with complex mental disorders (predominantly psychosis, but with other co-morbid conditions) in combination with the application of forensic models to treat and manage risk.

As a ward psychologist you will apply skills and expertise in clinical and risk assessments, collaboratively develop formulations; plan, sequence and deliver group or individual psychological interventions and consult to the MDT to enable our Service Users to improve their mental health, manage their risks and progress to greater independence. You will have the provision of an assistant psychologist to support you in your role. You will be part of a team of over twenty psychologists, assistant psychologists and psychological therapists based in Essex, Northampton and Birmingham delivering psychological interventions for a diverse patient group at St. Andrew's.

As a clinician you will be supported to develop specialist skills in clinical areas of your interest and contribute to the development and training within the psychology team and greater service. St. Andrews has an excellent record of providing opportunities for research, training and continuing professional development.
