Job Description

 

Summary

To lead the work of the UK Missing Persons Unit as part of the wider National Investigative Capabilities team in support of the Agency’s objectives.

The Unit is the national and international point of contact for all missing persons and unidentified bodies cases and the centre for information exchange and expertise in the field of missing persons.

Job description

The post holder will be responsible for:
• the conduct of specialist investigations and support to police investigations into missing and found persons’ cases by a team of dedicated operational staff.
• the leadership and management of the UK’s Child Rescue Alert: an inter-operable European child alert and critical national service.
• the management of key national forensic data indices for DNA, fingerprints and dental records in connection with missing and found persons.
• the management of the national database of missing and found persons and for the publication of an annual statistical bulletin on missing persons.
• the provision of subject matter expertise for College of Policing and other bodies in respect of design and development of authorised professional practice and other guidance.
• for the identification and dissemination of good practice nationally and internationally.
• for the delivery of training and guidance to police and associated organisations.
• for the operational policy lead of behalf of the government, in co-ordination with national policing leads and the College of Policing.
• for building and maintaining effective external partnerships, collaborating with other NCA units, wider UK law enforcement, international counterparts and government departments, as well as civil society organisations and the higher education sector.

You will also have the below qualifications or skills:
Essential Criteria:
• Degree in social sciences subject.

Desirable Criteria:
• A background in policing preferably at middle manager level or equivalent.
• Good understanding of health and social care.
• Good understanding of the use of biometric data.
• Experience of working with human rights and data protection legislation.

Qualifications

• Degree in social sciences subject.
