Do you want to pass on your passion and knowledge to the next generation of game artists?

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Game Artist to teach short semester courses to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.

The Game Art Tutor is part of a team responsible for the development and delivery of the Game Art programs to our 1st year Undergraduate students.

The Game Art Tutor will utilise a wide range of industry practice that encompasses mobile game art.

You will be teaching the foundations of game art which helps students understand art direction and establishing good practice in modelling, texturing and implementation in engine.

You will be comfortable briefing students on industry based projects and guiding them in their project time, providing formative feedback as well as summative reviews.

Learning and development are important to us as we want you to keep your edge and pass that on to our students. Development time is given so you can learn our curriculum, deliver it and contribute to its development.

Our engine of choice is Unreal Engine 4 and we use Maya,Substance Painter and Photoshop, if you have used other engines or software we are still interested in seeing your work.

Further Responsibilities Include;

  • Working with the Head of Games and other members of staff to deliver fantastic game art classes;
  • Delivering training courses to students in a classroom environment, online and when necessary, to individuals and professional customers on and off-site;
  • Providing one–to-one feedback, coaching, show-reel clinics and support to students with a range of backgrounds and abilities;
  • The ongoing research and development of course content and industry tools and techniques to ensure industry relevance of our training;
  • To organise workloads to a schedule and work under pressure when required;
  • Cooperation with the Marketing, Sales and Recruitment teams to support and participate in promotional and business development activities.

Qualifications

Essential

If you do not possess all essential skills, we will still consider applicants who have a willingness to learn.

  • Experienced in working on at least one released game;
  • Experience in using one/or more of the following packages;
  • MAYA / Substance Painter, (desirable), Photoshop, Zbrush grey (desirable not essential), Unity, Unreal Engine 4;
  • Industry experience in Games Art, Creating environments and Props with a portfolio showing skills in creating stunning environments and lighting as well as textures and sculpts;
  • A strong communicator;
  • A passion for passing on knowledge.

Desirable

If you do not possess all desirable skills, we will still consider applicants who have a willingness to learn.

  • Knowledge of concepts surrounding art direction and Style Guides;
  • Comfortable with stylistic approaches;
  • Understanding of PBR;
  • Experience in Cascade or other FX systems;
  • Blueprint experience for simple level interactions to make our students game art come alive;
  • Teaching experience and/or a willingness to undertake teaching training with eventual membership of the HEA and postgraduate qualifications is also acceptable.

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000.
