About Higher Education Qualifications

The aim of the Higher Education Qualifications (HEQ) department is to ensure that Pearson’s qualifications are the gold standard in professional higher-level education. HEQ manage BTEC Higher Nationals, HEQ Digital, LCCI Professional qualifications and Progression & Recognition.

Position summary

This role will drive key aspects of our HN Online product, including:

  • Developing compelling business cases and tracking performance
  • Contributing to overarching strategy for HEQ Digital
  • Developing, maintaining and sharing market insight for online products for given sector(s)
  • Ensure product development meets customer needs

Key Accountabilities

  • Developing compelling business cases and tracking performance
  • Lead on the strategy for HN Online for given sector(s), working in conjunction with the Head of Online Products to make decisions about opportunities for growth
  • Create and present compelling business cases for online products for given sector(s) at different stages of the product life cycle
  • Build and manage P&Ls, working with internal teams to draw together forecasts and costings for given sector(s)
  • Track the performance of online products for given sector(s) and take action to ensure agreed KPIs are met
  • Contributing to winning sales and marketing strategies, messages and collateral, ensuring fit for given sector(s)
  • Contributing to overarching strategy for HEQ Digital
  • Contribute to the overall strategy for growth of HEQ online products in the UK and internationally
  • Contribute to the roadmap for HEQ online products
  • Contribute to the strategic and operational planning process for HEQ Digital
  • Developing, maintaining and sharing market insight for online products for given sector(s)
  • Maintain a deep understanding of customer needs in given sector(s) in relation to online learning, for both UK and international markets
  • Maintain a deep understanding of market dynamics in given sector(s) for both UK and international markets
  • Conduct market research to maintain an evidence base of learner, tutor and centre needs for given sector(s) to inform online product development
  • Briefing internal teams on the market environment and sector-specific needs or requirements
  • Ensure product development meets customer needs
  • Inform product planning and design throughout the entire lifecycle of the product for given sector(s)
  • Use deep market insight and evidence to define features and requirements for online products for given sector(s), anticipating and meeting customer needs
  • Ensure the customer and market needs are carried through into content and product developments
  • Support the recruitment of writers, consultants and trainers with required online and subject expertise for given sector(s)
  • Work with technical and delivery teams to ensure online products for given sector(s) are of high quality and will deliver high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Take part in quality assurance of content, features and functionality at key points during product development
  • Contribute to the process of defining, measuring, and improving the efficacy of online products

Qualifications

Experience and skills

Essential:

  • Significant experience in a product management role, with a strong track record
  • Experience developing successful strategies for products and/or services
  • Experience of managing P&Ls and budgets
  • Experience of working closely with product, marketing, sales and operational teams
  • Experience of conducting market research to inform product and proposition development
  • Knowledge of educational and learning technology trends
  • Strong customer focus

Desirable:

  • Experience in and awareness of the HE environment
  • Knowledge of the Pearson BTEC Higher National portfolio, its products and markets
  • An understanding of digital development processes
  • Experience of product management of digital products
  • Knowledge/experience of implementing efficacy
  • Previous experience working internationally
