We’re looking for two Homeless Services Officers to join our highly driven Homeless Services team. The team provides advice, guidance and support to a wide range of people in difficult situations. If you have a passion for helping people and are looking for a rewarding career beyond the standard nine-to-five, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you. You will need to be resilient and committed to problem solving with excellent negotiation skills.
The role involves working in a duty office environment – virtually at present – assessing customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness as defined by the Homeless Reduction Act 2017. Working innovatively and determinedly, you will make use of the resources available to you to prevent and resolve homelessness. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic with a positive attitude and the drive to make change happen. You will also be committed to continuous improvement. Currently, we are working from home, however, we are likely to adopt a flexible approach in the future with a combination of office, home, and site working where necessary.

Job Description Directorate: Operations Job Title: Homeless Services Officer
Job Purpose and Role: To prevent homelessness in the City by assisting customers to either retain their present accommodation or by the provision of alternative housing solutions. Ensuring there is access to suitable housing for those in need, in line with the Homeless Strategy and Allocations Policy. To fully inform customers of the housing solutions available to them and assist with a range of housing matters. To take a proactive approach to preventing and reducing homelessness. To ensure fair and consistent treatment of all customers, regardless of circumstances or tenure. Work individually and in collaboration with others in the company and externally to facilitate resident/tenancy sustainment. Once agreed, work with the Temporary Accommodation Placement Officers to ensure quick and efficient placement of households into temporary accommodation, ensuring that the placement is appropriate for the household, it makes best use of available stock and it meets value for money requirements. Be responsible for all households placed by Wolverhampton Homes in temporary accommodation being referred to the Sustainment and Support Team for support. Provide front line services to customers, either face-to-face, over the telephone, by email/text or by way of home visits. All contact with customers will be done sensitively and with empathy.
