Cutting edge technology at the heart of our business.
Baillie Gifford was established as an investment management partnership over 100 years ago. Today, we are an independent global investment management business with over £200 billion under management and a team of over 1,200 people based in Edinburgh.
Cutting-edge information systems underpin everything we do, which is why we develop most of our software in-house, operate a continuous development cycle and invest heavily in new technologies – and in the 300-strong team of professionals who bring that technology to life.
We think it’s vital to have a supportive, inclusive culture in the workplace and have a well-established LBGT Network which offers confidential support and guidance to staff, ensures policies and procedures are LBGT inclusive and helps raise awareness of LBGT issues. We also have Mental Health and Wellbeing Groups, and a Multicultural Network, which aims to celebrate, promote and support cultural diversity at Baillie Gifford.
Application Development Summer Placement: June to August 2020
Following a week’s induction, you and your fellow interns will work together on a real business project as you take responsibility for the full lifecycle - from the initial brief to project planning, programming, testing and delivery. At every stage, you’ll meet with our experienced technical and business leaders who will support you throughout the process.
Running alongside your project, you will have a range of development opportunities with other teams in the department. So as you spend time with experts, you will be able to apply what you learn directly to your project.
Technical Infrastructure 12-15 Month Placement
This 12-15 month paid placement starting in summer 2020 has been designed for students in IT-related disciplines. You’ll be a key member of our team from the word go, doing real work and taking real responsibility as you get your hands on the latest technology and explore what’s emerging.
More than that though, the focus here is understanding how those new and exciting technologies can be applied to solve today’s business challenges. We work with major vendors including Microsoft, Cisco, Apple, Dell EMC, VMware, Palo Alto and Splunk. So yes, we’ll help you gain the kind of experience that will make your CV stand out from the crowd.
Starting with a structured induction that’ll give you a full overview of our business, you’ll move on to the IT Service Desk and then rotate around our Data Centre & Operations and Integration & Optimisation teams. You’ll also be involved in some key projects in both teams, finishing off with a return to the IT Service Desk to consolidate everything you’ve learned. Working within this collaborative, innovative and co-operative environment, you can look forward to full and ongoing training, plus support from an experienced mentor.
Now in your penultimate year of study for a software development related degree, you’re fascinated by emerging technology and keen to explore its potential. So when you apply, we want you to tell us about any websites or apps you’ve built, blogs you’ve written or technical forums you’ve contributed to. Show us your problem solving approach to technical challenges too. We’re looking for well-rounded individuals who have a positive approach - and as your project will be a web-based application, you will need to know your way around web technologies
You already have lots of ideas about how technology can support business performance, and you’ll want to see that in action. We like people who quickly become part of our team and who enjoy taking on responsibility and developing their practical skills and commercial understanding.
