Inspectors are responsible for determination of the physical status of existing plant equipment, reporting results, and advising plant personnel of Code inspection requirements for consideration in operational and maintenance planning.

Job Description

Inspectors are responsible for determination of the physical status of existing plant equipment, reporting results, and advising plant personnel of Code inspection requirements for consideration in operational and maintenance planning. Inspectors also determine the inspection and testing requirements for new or repaired equipment and advise plant management as appropriate in Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, and Engineering. They provide and manage inspection services to the plant as specified by identified codes, standards and plant practices, to ensure that equipment is safe to operate, while minimizing unit downtime and optimizing repair costs.

  • Work closely with the Unit Engineer, Equipment Specialist, Project Engineers and Maintenance Supervision in their assigned area to ensure that all issues are addressed and their time is optimized
  • Approve / review welder certifications and weld procedures for use
  • Authorize and approve alterations and repairs of pressure vessels, tanks, and piping to include determining inspection methods for repairs and hold points.
  • Perform routine inspections to comply with code requirements, identify problems, and estimate equipment life expectancy
  • Document inspection results and distribute to appropriate personnel
  • Advise and assist unit personnel with inspection options to solve unit problems
  • Understand plant strategies and link roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities in Inspection to allow the plant to successfully achieve them



  • Formal qualifications constituting university degrees, examination certificates that confirm a level of educational attainment or licenses.
  • Membership of a technical or professional body that has confirmed an individual has reached a level of capability within a technical or professional field (usually but not necessarily obtained through examinations) or Formal certification that they can undertake specialist work or processes e.g. PMI.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent



  • Champion safe work practices in the Inspection group & set an example for safety in other groups
  • Maintain Fixed Equipment Code certifications to levels determined by supervisor & as required by the plant
  • Maintain Unit Inspection programs: Inspection reports, records, drawings, TAR recommendations
  • Interpret code requirements as authorized for inspections & repairs & provide technical expertise on these codes & other standards
  • Establish & optimize Inspection intervals
  • Keep Inspection practices current in technology & concept by networking, research, & supplier interactions
  • Establish & maintain piping, structural, & CUI programs to ensure long term viability of the Cooper River Plant
  • Communication Skills-Verbal & Technical Writing
  • 3 Years Minimum Job Experience, or equivalent education to allow API Certification
  • A thorough knowledge of NDT Methods & applying them for repairs & mechanical integrity
  • The willingness & ability to work in a confined space & enter a standard 18" manway
  • The willingness & ability to work with a respirator & climb scaffold ladders
  • The willingness & ability to work nights, weekends & 12-hour shifts as scheduled (for call-outs and turnarounds)
  • Proficient level skills using Meridium (or industry equivalent), Microsoft Word, & Excel
