The Instrument Engineer identifies reliability improvement opportunities for refinery instruments. As the Instrument Engineer, you will lead refinery instrument projects and review instrument design for multi-discipline capital and expense projects

Job Description

You will provide technical support for instrumentation and control system specification, installation, configuration, and maintenance. You will collaborate with the rest of the refinery maintenance team to maximize the runability of the site.

  • Provides support for instrument engineering activities throughout the refinery
  • Develops and manages refinery instrumentation projects including scope definition, economic analysis, engineering design, field execution, project startup, and documentation
  • Provides the primary focus on support for instrument engineering activities throughout the refinery.
  • Understands and is compliant with all Control of Work (CoW) and Process Safety policies and procedures
  • Directs critical activities requiring instrument knowledge and expertise
  • Provides technical input in determining priority and scope of equipment repairs
  • Reviews engineering projects and improvements to ensure compliance with refinery standards and good engineering practice
  • Develops and manages refinery instrumentation projects including scope definition, economic analysis, engineering design, field execution, project startup, and documentation
  • Responsible for completion of engineering design, documentation and implementation for small refinery improvement and modification projects
  • Works together with refinery Process Control group to identify control improvement opportunities
  • Support of refinery Operations and Optimization engineers in identifying strategic instrumentation and control opportunities that have high potential to improve operating efficiency and availability or to reduce maintenance costs
  • Supports development of safety, protective or process logic system requirements and logic implementation
  • Identify new instrumentation technologies and evaluate for suitability and maintainability. When applicable, develop application designs and assist with technician trainingParticipates as a member of plant emergency operating procedures (E.O.P.) team

 

Bachelors of Science in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

 

  • 5 years of industrial instrumentation and controls systems.
  • Knowledge of industry codes such as ANSI/API RP’s 551, 552, 553, 554, 555, 556, and other applicable ANSI/API codes, ISA standards, and the NEC
  • Technical knowledge of instrument design, specification, documentation, installation and maintenance
  • Experience with control valve and pressure relieving device sizing and application
  • Experience with electrical schematic drawings, logic diagrams and panel schedules
  • Knowledge of Honeywell TDC Hiway and UCN based equipment desirable
  • Assist in HAZOPs, MOC’s, Incident Investigations, and Job Safety Analysis
  • Strong teamwork, technical and communication skills
  • Experience with PLC installation and programming
  • Checkout, troubleshooting and startup experience desirable
