Are you an excellent people manager who has experience of managing or coaching a team of Lawyers, Case Workers or Investigators within a Regulator or a Law Firm?

Our Assessment and Early Resolution team is looking for an Investigation Manager to join them.

Your role

As an Investigation Manager you will lead and manage a team of Investigation Officers in our Assessment and Early Resolution Team (AERT).

AERT Investigation Officers assess reports about alleged misconduct and breaches of our Standards and Regulations. This involves:

  • making initial enquires of the complainant and the firm/solicitor complained about to identify misconduct
  • Identifying and weighing up aggravating and mitigating factors to analyse the seriousness of the alleged breach
  • Considering the strength and quality of the evidence so far and whether the matter is being capable of being evidenced

The work is high volume and fast paced but requires an analytical and enquiring mindset.

You will have an excellent customer service approach and lead by example. Dealing with customer dissatisfaction quickly and courteously but holding firm where necessary to support good decision-making in the team.

As part of a team of four AERT Investigation Managers you will provide support, development, and technical expertise to about 12 AERT Investigation Officers.

This is a people management position which will require you to use your leadership skills to nurture your team and develop them to become high performers. You will give support and guidance to your team to make sure quality results are delivered against set objectives/KPIs and that exceptional levels of customer experience are demonstrated.

Working with senior management, and the wider Investigation and Supervision team, you will successfully deliver organisational change programmes and identify and deliver improvements to the way we work.

Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to challenge and influence key stakeholders at every level are key to being successful in this role.

What we're looking for

  • Ideally, you will have experience of working in a similar role with another regulator or have had experience of managing or coaching staff within a law firm or in the legal sector.
  • Excellent judgment and decision making - evidenced ability to analyse complex information to make sound decisions as well as a good understanding of regulatory and operational risk.
  • A strong customer service mindset with a track record of dealing with customers concerns well and leading and coaching others to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ability to motivate your team, managing performance through coaching, to improve standards and engage staff in their own development.
  • Ability to identify, plan and deliver improvement and changes through leadership or project work
  • A flexible and tenacious individual, able to adjust your priorities at short notice.

We are currently advertising this opportunity on a full or part time basis. Please apply according to your preference. Part time hours would allow for a minimum of 28 hours per week working across 4 days.

The successful candidate will be working from home till at least the early summer. Longer term, this role will be expected to be based out of our offices at the Cube in Birmingham city centre one-two days a week, and from home the rest of the week.
