The Department for International Trade is recruiting for a Joint Chief Investigator

Job Description

As part of our preparations to leave the EU, we are establishing with the Trade Bill a new independent UK body, the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), to defend UK businesses against unfair trading practices.

We are now seeking to appoint two Chief Investigators of the TRA. Each will lead a multidisciplinary team of subject matter experts to deliver high-quality, robust trade remedies investigations, overseeing their development and further specialisation by sector or country expertise. They will also engage with senior internal and external stakeholders for the investigations their teams undertake. Members of the TRA’s senior management team, they will contribute to its wider leadership and to developing its strategy.

Successful candidates must demonstrate experience leading complex investigations that deal with legal, financial or economic issues. They must hold a post-graduate qualification in economics, finance, law, or related disciplines, with substantial senior level experience in a high-profile, complex environment. They will have strong programme management skills and experience of handling complex financial data and legal requirements. Along with the highest level of personal and professional integrity, they will have excellent communication and influencing skills to foster and maintain collaborative relationships. Experience in international trade, in particular trade remedies would be helpful.

These will be challenging and demanding, yet exceptionally rewarding, roles. They will offer the successful candidates a unique and exciting opportunity to make a positive contribution to the delivery of a fair and robust trade remedies regime in the UK once we have left the EU, to positively protect the UK’s industries, and to ensure the TRA is set up to succeed in the long term.
