Role summary

 

This position is a 6 month maternity cover contract, and is based in our Guildford head office with potential travel to Denmark and other EMEA locations.

 

In this role, you will be providing legal advice and support to the lines of business that form part of BAE Systems Applied Intelligence; this will require being well-versed in contract and general commercial law. You will also be supporting and leading contract bids and negotiations directly with external government and commercial customers, as you will not only advise on legal issues but also guide and assist in commercial discussions.  The role also includes the drafting and implementation of relevant policies that come under the legal remit of the Operational Framework. The role requires a good understanding of data protection and privacy laws, and a keen interest in information technology and intellectual property. You’ll be managing multiple engagements in a fast-paced and very dynamic workspace.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts with customers of BAE Systems Applied Intelligence
  • Providing timely and relevant legal support to the business on key areas of risk
  • Assisting in ensuring compliance with BAE Systems policies and procedures
  • Effectively using and managing of external counsels when required
  • Training of staff in matters of law and policy
     

What we’re looking for

 

Knowledge:

  • An understanding of BAE Systems Applied Intelligence and the IT/IS industry which we operate in
  • A good understanding of information technology issues
  • Knowledge and experience of (i) contract/commercial law, (ii) data protection and privacy law, (iii) IT and IP law (primarily as it relates to software)
  • Qualified solicitor
  • Experience at a leading law firm or appropriate in-house experience

 

Skills:

  • Ability to make risk-based assessment of required legal advice 
  • Ability to lead and manage negotiations with customers (internal and external) and discussions within the business regarding customer engagements
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence senior managers within the business
  • Ability to draft complex legal documentation
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills

 

Technology:

  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
