About the programme
Royal Mail is well known for its Postmen and Postwomen, and as one of the largest Logistics companies in the UK, there is significant opportunity to explore some really exciting careers. With three separate schemes set over two years, you’ll get the opportunity to explore how we can make our transportation pipeline more efficient, utilise new technology to gain the best from our processes and meet our customer quality targets. Your role will include being responsible for planning alternative routes at short notice, working efficiently and calmly to tackle challenges that arise from unplanned transport disruption. You’ll learn about the vital role Logistics plays in every business, including ours.
We’ll give you exposure to the overall pipeline and operation of the business, training on how to use our systems and an opportunity for career progression. You’ll get hands-on responsibility from the moment you start. It’s all about developing your skills and showing you how to build the foundations for a fantastic career. Our highly experienced managers will set you performance goals and while we expect you to use your initiative and champion your own development, you’ll also have access to guidance and support from a buddy, mentor and HR Partners, so you can build a successful career at the top of our business.
Graduates are located with the team in London or the Midlands, but you will often work across the country meaning flexibility to travel is essential. If you are accepted on to the Central Postal Control Scheme, you will definitely spend part of your time in London. And if you need to relocate, we offer some financial support and time off to move as part of our relocation policy.
All our Graduates receive generous benefits, which include an annual bonus (depending on personal and company performance), a pension plan with company contribution; a business laptop and phone, and much more.
What we’re looking for
A Mathematics, Geography, Engineering or Computer Science based degree would be an advantage (with the exception of the Line Haul scheme where this is a requirement), but regardless of your degree discipline we look for graduates who share our vision and passion in keeping people connected.
The skills to thrive in a challenging environment are also essential. You need to be motivated, resilient and always determined to solve a problem should one ever arise. These will be key when working in teams, and being a champion for continuous improvement and change. You’ll need to be IT literate with strong presentation skills.
Whether you’re managing the team and day to day operations or helping to deliver our strategy – your growing confidence as a communicator and strategic planner will underpin your development and learning over the course of the programme.
