Job Description

The LSO Discovery Coordinator role covers a range of work across Choral and Schools projects, providing an exciting opportunity for a creative, collaborative and highly organised individual to develop LSO Discovery’s work with schools as well as LSO Sing. The post will be involved in a vibrant and varied programme encompassing the day-to-day work of the LSO Sing Programme and supporting the LSO Key stage concerts for schools. The post reports to the LSO Choral and Schools Projects Manager and works within the LSO Discovery First Access team.

Salary: £22,500 to £23,500 per annum, according to experience.

This role is offered on a full time, permanent basis.

Co-ordinating LSO Choral programme

  • Co-ordinating the day-to-day administrative running of the LSO Choirs and vocal projects including the maintenance of members’ databases and being a first point of contact for parents and members
  • Sending updated schedules to choir members and conductors and ensuring the smooth running of LSO choirs’ rehearsals and performances
  • Supporting the LSO Discovery Choral and Schools Project Manager in the planning and scheduling of choral activity, including booking spaces for regular rehearsals and concerts, ensuring a balanced and manageable programme of activity for participants and artists
  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with choral music personnel, choir members, and administration, taking their views into account and informing them of the programme’s development
  • Preparing for rehearsals including printing music and sorting word-sheets for choir members
  • Ensuring the staffing for rehearsals – including player booking and chaperones booking
  • Supporting the planning and organising of other vocal workshops and singing activities
  • Ensuring all child performance licensing requirements are met for performances as required including completely Body of Persons applications


Administrative and Event Support for Schools and Family concerts

  • Processing bookings and enquiries for Key Stage Concerts
  • Coordinating the Key stage concert schools booking, creating seating plans
  • Leading a small team on key stage concert days, working side by side with Barbican staff to ensure the FOH school arrivals are smooth
  • Coordinating and leading on the delivery of Family concert foyer activities including devising activities in collaboration with the Choral and Schools Projects Manager
  • Booking players and liaising with the Barbican for Family foyer activities to ensure the event runs smoothly
  • Booking players for a range of projects including KS1 & KS2 Inset days
  • Distributing and editing text and design of KS Inset project packs, resources and concert programmes
  • Co-ordinating event logistics and compiling seating plans for various events at LSO St Luke’s and at the Barbican
  • A friendly and efficient first point of contact for general enquiries for LSO Sing and Schools concerts


Publicity, Marketing and Development

  • Creating publicity material for projects, including writing copy and designing leaflets either on InDesign (the LSO’s in-house design programme), Apple’s Pages and Keynote software or in collaboration with members of the LSO Marketing team
  • Distributing publicity material to potential participants and audiences
  • Assisting with the collation of copy for Choral and Schools projects listed in LSO print (such as LSO St Luke’s guides and LSO season guides)
  • Collating evaluation material for funders’ reports


Records & Databases

  • Maintaining efficient database records for project participants
  • Assisting with the upkeep of schedules on ArtsVision (the LSO’s scheduling calendar)



  • Occasional out-of-hours and weekend support at events are required for this role
  • Any other reasonable duties and support on other LSO Discovery events as may be required






  • 1-2 years’ experience of project administration
  • Knowledge of classical music and orchestras
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Passion for music and an interest in music education administration
  • Ability to work under pressure, and to deliver accurately and consistently
  • Ability to take initiative and responsibility when working alone
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good interpersonal skills with an interest in working with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • A friendly approach and understanding of the issues faced when working with children and vulnerable adults



  • Acknowledge of safeguarding policies and approaches in arts organisations
  • Ideally experience working with young people in a musical or arts context
  • A strong commitment to, and knowledge of, music education
  • Interest in and knowledge of Choral music
