Job Description

The Maintenance planner will coordinate with their respective unit Team Leaders and Maintenance Coordinator to assimilate and plan the maintenance work requirements for their respective unit and will participate as a member of the Plant Maintenance Management Team.
This position interacts with the Maintenance & Engineering Manager, Maintenance Team Leaders, other Planners, Operations Management and Team Leaders, Capital Projects Contractor Liaison, Engineering (both BP and third party).

  • Plans all normal unit maintenance work identified including mechanical, pipe, scaffold, civil, or instrument, electrical
  • Coordinates with Team Leaders to verify identified work is needed and direct identified work to proper work group such as maintenance crew, on shift maintenance, or TPM
  • Reviews maintenance work identified by the unit personnel and participates in gatekeeping meetings with the Maintenance Coordinators to prioritize notifications
  • Reviews and plans maintenance work identified by operations personnel
  • Solicits feedback from craft foreman, technicians, operators and maintenance coordinators while planning the workorder and after the work in completed in order to improve planning accuracy
  • Provides support to Unit Engineers and Projects Group for planning projects and shared plant resources in SAP - Identifies specific fixed costs reduction opportunities.
  • Serves as the liaison between maintenance and operations for the crafts they are responsible to plan.
  • Assists operations in identifying required maintenance work.
  • Supports emergency plant needs on day shift and provides 24 hour (on-call) assistance during off-hours
  • Assists Team Leaders in identifying Technician training needs
  • Assists in equipment troubleshooting activities
  • Provides an audit function in areas such as safety, productivity, procedures, and costs.
  • Conducts safety audits of maintenance activities, use of PPE, procedures, etc.
  • Responsible for understanding maintenance metrics
  • Coordinates unit priorities with the Team Leaders and Scheduler
  • Assists the Scheduler with coordination of plant service requirements
  • Assists the operations personnel in determining job completion
  • Provides guidance to maintenance technicians on specific job requirements
  • Assists in determining spare parts requirements and elimination of obsolete stock
  • Identifies opportunities for cost reduction
  • Provides direct crew leadership and coordination during shutdownsAssists in troubleshooting problems and in root cause failure analysis
