We are currently seeking a Manager, Finance Business Partnering to support the School Assessment Operations group. This group has locations in San Antonio, TX; Iowa City, IA; Cedar Rapids, IA; and Owatonna, MN. The role will be positioned in Owatonna, MN, and will primarily support the Print Services group within the larger School Assessment Operations organization. Print Services operates primarily out of Owatonna, but also supports printing in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Print Services is responsible for the production and delivery of printed products used in the School Assessment Business Group. Those products include scannable and non-scan test booklets and other related test material, and student score reports. Production methods include lithographic offset presses, and a variety of digital production strategies. The facility also has equipment to fold, cut, collate and bind booklets, shrink wrap, and personalize printed material. Most products are shipped to the Cedar Rapids facility for further processing and direct delivery to testing sites. Score reports are shipped directly to students and schools. Print Services also has several external customers for which the group provides similar printed test materials.

Finance supports the activities of Print Services by managing procurement, inventory management, and financial reporting for the business unit.

Print Services has total annual revenue of about $20M and normally provides operating income of about 10% of that amount.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Support the Print Services leadership team by advising the group on financial matters and ensuring that the business meets business and operational objectives.
  • Provide financial data to support the pricing of all products and services for internal and external customers to ensure that financial goals are achieved.
  • Serve as the primary contact with tax authorities at the State (Sale tax) and County (property tax) issues.
  • Manage all facility and equipment leases to include the negotiation of lease terms, documentation, and renewals. Prepare the necessary financial worksheets to determine how leases will be categorized (e.g. finance or operating) and ensure that the appropriate accounting entries are made to represent such classification.
  • Assist in the development of all capital projects. Manage capital spending against Plan targets. Follow project submissions through approval, and ensure that projects are closed (capitalized) with appropriate detail and depreciation terms. Plan and manage an annual review of assets assigned to the Business Unit.
  • Supervise all aspects of the monthly financial close process. Determine that reported revenue is properly calculated. Review all entries prepared by direct reports. Review all Oracle reports developed during the close process.
  • Manage all financial reporting. This includes the monthly report that compares monthly results against Plan or forecast targets, the monthly Management Package for the Print Services LT, and other reports that are distributed to the Operations LT and the Finance Team.
  • Manage all financial planning and forecasting. Develop financial targets based on input from Program Teams, the Print Services LT, and external resources. Share projected data with Operations and Finance Leadership to ensure that this data meets the expectations of those individuals.
  • Approve all vendor invoices and P-card transactions.
  • Understand the businesses regulatory and audit requirements and ensure they are adhered to
  • Management responsibility for direct reports - directing, supervising and reviewing work to ensure that it is performed to a high standard.

Qualifications

  • Deep accounting knowledge – qualification as an accountant or MBA degree.
  • Proven business partnering experience (3 years ).
  • Well proven ability to conduct business case and investment analysis.
  • Qualified with demonstrable experience in management accounting role.
  • Experience with an Enterprise System - preferably Oracle.
  • Strong understanding of materiality and ability to prioritize across competing agendas.
  • Ability to identify business risks and implementation of tactics to mitigate.
  • Understanding of financial control, business performance management and process optimization and experience of working in more than one of these areas.
