Right now, we have this unique opening for a someone to leading and implement our global HSSE strategy at the Formulated Products Technology (FPT) centre in Pangbourne as well as leading the global lab safety across the 11 Technology Centres. Using BP safety and operational risk processes and tools, the role holder will lead and coach Technology Centre leaders to identify opportunities to assess, strengthen and develop effective risk control barriers and promote safe, consistent, reliable operations. The role holder will evaluate and interpret BP, legal and regulatory requirements and develop and implement fit for purpose solutions to ensure these are met consistently and reliably across FPT. Actively demonstrating BP Values & Behaviours to engage senior leaders to continue development of our proactive safety culture is a key element of the role. The role is multifaceted and we have tried to highlight this by splitting the accountabilities for HSSE for site and Glob al Lab Safety.


It is anticipated the role holder will typically focus 70% on local site activities and 30% on global activities.

HSSE (Pangbourne) responsibilities are:

  • Ensuring that the FPT organisation strives for no harm, no injuries and no damage to the environment
  • Taking the lead in developing and ensuring implementation of our global strategy for ensuring safe operations, through strict adherence to BP, national and local standards
  • Leading the HSSE agenda and plans for whole site promoting BP Values and Behaviours to support this
  • Delegating administrative aspects of the role to appropriate PAs and team leaders
  • Influencing and coaching CBRE to ensure consistency in HSSE, processes and operating practices
  • Providing strong Site leadership as part of the Site Leadership team (LT) in all areas of operation

The Global Laboratory Safety responsibilities are:

  • Providing direction, oversight and assurance of all laboratory safety activity relating to the FPT (Fuels, Lubricants, Coke and Bitumen) organisation
  • Interpreting and co-ordinating implementation of BP HSSE and Engineering requirements related to laboratory safety
  • Developing FPT specific laboratory safety requirements and ensuring implementation and conformance with all applicable BP and FPT Technical Practices
  • Assuring conformance to all relevant BP IM, HSSE and regulatory requirements within laboratory activities


Essential Qualifications and Experiences:

  • University degree (or the equivalent in work experience), preferably in a technical discipline.
  • Formal HSSE qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent) desirable.
  • Experience in HSSE role(s) or Operational roles with substantial HSSE accountabilities.
  • Understanding and experience of HSSE within an international brand marketing business environment, including understanding and knowledge of the external competitive environment.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations in a technology, manufacturing or test house environment
  • Generalist HSSE background and experience.
  • Ability and track record of engaging at operational, supervisory and management levels of the organisation
