Job Description

Market Research Manager

Description

We are the world’s learning company with more than 22,500 employees operating in 70 countries. We combine world-class educational content and assessment, powered by services and technology, to enable more effective teaching and personalized learning at scale. We believe that wherever learning flourishes so do people. We’re committed to a world that’s always learning and to our talented team who makes it all possible. From bringing lectures vividly to life to turning textbooks into laptop lessons, we are always re-examining the way people learn best, whether it’s one child in our own backyard or an education community across the globe. We are bold thinkers and standout innovators who motivate each other to explore new frontiers in an environment that supports and inspires us to always be better. By pushing the boundaries of technology — and each other to surpass these boundaries — we create seeds of learning that become the catalyst for the world’s innovations, personal and global, large and small.

At Pearson, we believe in the power of difference. Harnessing the unique skills, perspectives, and backgrounds of every employee helps us foster innovation and create the most effective solutions for learners around the world. That’s why we’re committed to ensuring that diversity and inclusion are embedded into everything we do. We foster a work environment that’s inclusive and diverse — and where our people can be themselves — so we can reflect the customers and learners we serve.

Pearson is featured on The Forbes list of Best Employers and The Stonewall Top 100 Employers list, and we are recognised in the Best Employers for Diversity 2019 awards. Pearson is listed on both the London and New York Stock Exchanges (UK: PSON; NYSE: PSO).

About the Team

The UK POLS (Pearson Online Learning Services) team partners with UK universities to offer online degree programmes. We are looking for a market researcher to join this dynamic, growing business unit.

The market research team is uniquely placed within the POLS organisation in that we support all other functions within it, from business development to marketing, and from course launch to sales. We work closely with colleagues and provide them with the insight they need to support their activities – from high-level analyses of the general higher education landscape, down to very specific details of a given programme that can inform marketing and sales activities.

The principal role is to provide robust intelligence on specific courses and assess their viability for launch. This includes market sizing, audience segmentation, and competitor analysis. It also requires the ability to help our partner institutions absorb that insight and help them develop compelling and distinctive programme propositions within the chosen disciplines.

About the role

Key responsibilities

  • Researching and reporting on the market size and demand factors for online courses. Also, presenting these reports and findings to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Working with academic partners to develop truly distinctive and attractive programme propositions.
  • Producing detailed programme documentation to support marketing and sales colleagues.
  • Monitoring and analysing the HE market more widely, reporting on trends, regulatory framework and policy to help inform decisions taken by the business unit
  • Analysing data from our systems to identify trends and performance to drive programme refinement and selection
  • Conducting primary research focused on our learners.
  • Managing third party agencies.
  • Undertaking ad hoc research projects as required by the business unit.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have an excellent track-record in primary and secondary research including qualitative and quantitative methods;
  • be articulate and precise, and able to deliver research outputs both orally and in writing;
  • be confident and persuasive, and able to work with stakeholders at all levels;
  • thrive in a collaborative team culture, and have the energy and flexibility to work within a high-tempo, dynamic environment.

Pearson is an equal opportunities employer. We do not discriminate against employees or job applicants and select the best person for each job based on relevant skills and experience.

We are also committed to building an accurate picture of the make-up of the workforce and encouraging equality and diversity.

The information you provide will stay confidential, and be stored securely. It will not be seen by those involved in making decisions as part of the recruitment process.

Qualifications

Experience, skills & competencies

  • Relevant research and analysis experience ideally from within a Higher Education setting, or policy research/agency/business analytic context, with a track record in the delivery of research reports, presentations and other projects.
  • Experience of working with multiple research methods.
  • Detail focused.
  • Highly proficient in using Microsoft Office tools as well as other analytic and business intelligence software packages.
  • Experience in conducting data analyses that establish and document a business case.
  • Excellent planning, time management and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and succinctly.
