Job Description

Role responsibilities

  • Approve packaging specifications, pallet patterns, and bills of materials for package container/closure systems, primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging.
  • Final site signoff, i.e., carton size, artwork
  • Execute appropriate package qualification /compliance testing as required.
  • Partner with outside vendors and internal teams to develop and engineer packages to ensure functionality, compliance, cost, and timeline objectives are met.
  • Build and manage outside vendor relationships to ensure consistency and priority as needed
  • Lead packaging material investigations.
  • Lead packaging savings and improvement strategies
  • Participate in all projects where material changes and or manipulation is required
  • Drive sustainability work concerning raw and packaging materials
  • Execute Manufacturing Excellence strategies to support OEE

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Package Engineering or related Engineering field a plus.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in Packaging Operations Support.
  • Understanding of Quality Assurance within a manufacturing facility
  • Experience in Consumer Packaged Goods industry

Preferred qualifications

  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Experience with package labeling requirements
  • Familiarity with protocol and report writing for package performance testing (such as Shock and Vibration Testing)
  • Familiarity with USP General Tests and Assay requirements and FDA Guidance for Industry: Container Closure Systems for Packaging Human Drugs and Biologics preferred
  • Understanding Method 1 - DMAIC, Six Sigma, or related Statistical Process Control methodology for problem-solving.
  • Deep knowledge of Trade Production Management
  • Occasional lifting may be required.
  • Occasional lab sample preparation, lab testing, and the ability to analyze data results.

Role summary

The Material Packaging Optimization Lead will support the design, qualification, approval, and implementation of new and revised raw and packaging materials and packaging bills of materials for Castrol products at the Baton Rouge facility. They will serve as the key contact for technical support for relevant issues and cost savings projects for the facility.
