The School Division is currently recruiting for a Math Consultant to join our team in Don Mills office.
The Math Consultant will provide subject matter expertise in Mathematics to the K-12 School Division. The consultant will work closely with the cross-functional Math team and will support and consult on product development, professional learning development, product implementation, and marketing of new mathematics resources in Canada. The Math Consultant will be an integral member of the Math team and will be involved in key aspects of development: from research, to product and service conceptualization, prototyping, and implementation. In this role the consultant will advise on pedagogy, learning frameworks, professional learning approaches, and on the overall integration of our products and services. The Math Consultant will engage with math influencers and decision makers at all levels of education from Departments of Education to school district and school-based leaders in order to understand and support the future direction of mathematics in Canada. The Math Consultant’s thought leadership and experience in mathematics and education will support the successful development and commercialization of math products and services.
●Provide Math Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to Pearson’s Math cross-functional team
●Provide advice and support throughout the product development process and act as a sounding board on product concepts, prototypes, learning design, teaching and learning frameworks, and professional learning
●Advise on pedagogical soundness of math product concepts and prototypes, including assessment and progressions
●Advise on overall integration of math resources and professional learning services across all key aspects of the math teaching journey (planning, teaching, assessing/reporting, professional learning)
●Devise, in conjunction with Professional Services group, overall framework for professional learning in new math products (both print and digital)
●Be an active and integral member of the Math cross-functional team with a vested interest in the integrity and integration of our resources
●Provide personal subject matter expertise, while being open and receptive to research insights and inputs from other nationwide stakeholders (e.g., consultants, teachers, other administration roles)
●Collaborate closely with Editorial/Publishing group, Professional Services group, and Portfolio Manager during development and research efforts
●Conduct and support research efforts, among school-based educators as well as among other subject matter experts or stakeholders (e.g., conduct meetings and interviews with consultants, curriculum leads, assessment experts, Ministry stakeholders, academics) in order to inform development and network with math stakeholder/leads
●Develop an advisory panel
●Stay current with external math research and trends/changes at the curriculum/province/ministry/academic level and synthesize and share with cross-functional team.
Marketing and Sales
●Support Marketing & Sales team in customer presentations. Support may require in-person presentations and, on occasion, be more advisory in nature (e.g., helping the team to strategise before meetings).
●Support Marketing team in key internal presentations/meetings (e.g., Sales Meetings, specific training where we need to train our internal sales team on pedagogical aspects of our products and services).
●Network and research with math leaders and establish Pearson presence in the math community.
●Support the Marketing team by providing inputs on highly strategic, high-priority communications
●Support implementation process by providing input into the review and optimization of the implementation/onboarding curriculum of new math resources and supporting the training/coaching of our regional math consultants
●Collaborate with the Implementation team and regional math consultants by facilitating or supporting key high-stakes onboarding or professional learning sessions
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
●Completion of a university degree
●Hold a valid Canadian teacher certificate
●A minimum of 10 years of direct experience in the Canadian K-12 education space with at least 5 years with a math focus
●Strong ability to engage with and listen to multiple stakeholders in the education space, be open to multiple opinions and needs, and synthesize and communicate learnings
●Ability to work with and analyze various sources of information to gather insights about the mathematics space and market: from interviews with educators, to district plans, to provincial documents (such as curricula or other), and academic research among others
●Self-starter with strong initiative
●Outstanding verbal, written, communication and presentation skills
●Proficient with computers; including Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail and PowerPoint
●Exceptional organizational skills, detail-oriented and strong ability to multi-task
●Adaptable problem-solver and team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
●Strong decision-making and leadership skills
●Strategic and analytic
