Night Healthcare Assistant – Learning Disability IPU

Northampton
Hours: 37.5 – Full time
 
From £16,980 (£19,405 inclusive of enhancements based on standard shifts) rising to £22,000 (Based on night shifts - 30% of basic salary) ** once probation period has been completed on days
 
All night Healthcare Assistants will be expected to complete their probation period on day shift before moving onto nights

The Learning Disability IPU
 
As an IPU we are looking for Health Care Assistants to join our team, working with adult men and women who have a learning disability and complex mental health problems, in in-patient settings. We work in the least restrictive way to support positive outcomes for our patients as individuals.
 
Your role
 
As a Health Care Assistant, you will provide support that positively impacts the health and wellbeing of service users within the Learning Disability IPU. You will be a highly visible and important front line member of staff within an established team of professionals including: Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Responsible Clinician and Social Workers. 
 
Throughout the service user’s journey, you will provide a high standard of care, working in line with the individuals treatment programme. Your role will include supporting service users in a number of ways, this may include:
 
  • reporting and sharing information on presentation and risk
  • recording and handing over information
  • carrying out observations and enhanced support
  • supporting service users accessing actives, leave and appointments
  • working with families and carers of the service user and external visitors
  • supporting individuals in activities of daily living
  • adherence to health and safety requirements and supporting a safe environment
  • attending team meetings within the ward to enhance positive practice, contribute to discussions involving patient care and be informed of updates applicable to your role
     
    A full induction and opportunities to learn safe practices will be provided. To support your development, you will be offered regular, clinical and managerial supervision and the opportunity to have peer group supervision with other Health Care Assistants. You will be supported through an induction, a care certificate, clinical risk workbook and a probationary period of 6 months. This will include mentorship support from a senior Health Care Assistant and your line manager.
