Job Description

Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor (LD IPU)

Northampton
Salary: From £17,276 - £19,171 per annum (Core Contributor Band 3)
Hours: Full time 37.5 hours

An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to join St Andrew's Learning Disability Integrated Practice Unit (LD IPU), Northampton. The LD IPU has been designed to meet the complex needs of adults with a learning disability who also have psychiatric, psychological and emotional needs. You will work alongside a registered Senior Occupational Therapist and be based on a ward.

Duties and responsibilities will include planning and undertaking, as directed by the Occupational Therapist, a selection of individual and group interventions using therapeutic activity and meaningful occupations. This includes facilitating a series of leisure and vocational pursuits such as arts and crafts, horticulture and sports activities and facilitating a range of personal and domestic daily living activities, such as cooking and self-care tasks. This supports those in our care to function as independently as possible by helping them to acquire skills that are necessary for day-to-day living.

You will receive regular clinical supervision from the Senior Occupational Therapist and have the opportunity to work with a highly motivated team, be involved in staff training and personal development and have the opportunity to develop your skills in using therapeutic strategies and approaches, developing skills in running therapy groups and using sensory techniques.

You should have:
-         A clear understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy within Mental Health.
-         Good team player and excellent communication skills.
-         The ability to work under pressure
-         The  ability to build a rapport with patients.
-         Organisational skills and an ability to take initiative and complete delegated tasks.
