We have over 15 years’ experience delivering online teaching in the US and will provide you with all of the necessary content, training and support that you will need to guide the students to success in their Physics A-level.

Summary of Role

What does “online” mean? You will conduct all of your lessons, marking, office hours and other student contact time, via our advanced, web-based learning platform. The students will access all of their learning materials, including homework assignments, online.

You will work regular school hours, days and dates, initially in the London office, but then flexibly from home if preferred after an initial settling-in period - although you will need to be in the office at least once a week throughout the year. There will also likely be a couple of day-trip visits a year to meet your students in their schools/colleges.

The role will start in mid/late-August 2019, in order for you to undertake the necessary training to be able to deliver superior learning outcomes in a fully online environment.

Key responsibilities

You will be responsible for completing the following activities:

  • Motivate and encourage the students to study, so that they can achieve their goals;
  • Deliver a lesson each week to your classes and develop the teaching material for them;
  • Complete all marking for homework, tests and mock exams;
  • Support the students via asynchronous web conferencing sessions, email, chat and synchronous lessons;
  • Support students with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and interactions;
  • Communicate with the relevant contact at our partner schools/ colleges to ensure that students are in class on time and on-task throughout the course;
  • Report on individual student progress each week to our assigned contact at our partner schools/ colleges;
  • Review the curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding;
  • Keep student records and data up-to-date, including attendance and logging all student contact;
  • Communicate regularly with our curriculum development specialists, and provide improvement recommendations;
  • Actively participate in all professional development training sessions and our collaborative network of online teachers;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pearson is an equal opportunities employer. We do not discriminate against employees or job applicants and select the best person for each job based on relevant skills and experience.

We are also committed to building an accurate picture of the make-up of the workforce and encouraging equality and diversity.

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS);
  • Previous experience teaching A-level Physics - preferably the Edexcel specification;
  • A degree in Physics;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Student-focused approach, with excellent ability and experience in motivating students;
  • Strong technology skills, especially experience with Google Drive and new/social media apps, and preferably with edtech (ThingLink; VoiceThread; etc);
