The Policy Manager role
In the role of Policy Manager, you will lead key elements of the development of our regulatory policy agenda. You will play a critical role in delivering our Three-Year Corporate Strategy, across its three key objectives: setting and maintaining high professional standards for solicitors and law firms, developing our policy around technology and innovation and continually building an understanding of emerging opportunities and challenges in the legal services sector.
You will be responsible for leading the development, delivery and implementation of key policies in line with our corporate objectives and to improve the legal services market in England and Wales.
This includes work as diverse as engaging with legal technology to make sure that we adapt our regulation in a way that supports positive developments for the users of legal services, stimulating the provision of information that will help people choose the right legal services for their needs, considering how our regulation can promote access to justice for different people and businesses and monitoring the market for professional indemnity insurance.
You will be expected to apply robust project management skills and have a clear understanding of the range of available regulatory tools, the importance of an evidence base and the values of equality, diversity and inclusion to deliver effective policy outcomes.
Working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, you will be confident in establishing influential relationships and will have the credibility to contribute effectively in external debate.
You will produce and present well-written reports, consultation papers, policy documents, committee and board papers and provide specialist advice, support and briefings on complex policy issues within the SRA and externally.

This is an office-based role and longer term, this role will be based either in our Birmingham or London office 1-2 days a week, and from home rest of the week. On occasion travel may be required to the other office from which you are based, or for meetings with stakeholders or attendance at events.
The salary offer for this role will be within the ranges of £53,147 - £57,425 for Birmingham based and £60,157 - £65,000 for London based; depending on demonstrable knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate can bring to the role.
