Job Description

Subject matter expert for process analytical technology (plant lab, at-line, on-line, in-line) for the petrochemicals business. Single point of accountability for process analytical measurements to support aromatics manufacturing, licensing and commercial teams.

Individual contributor for the development, demonstration and deployment of process analytical technologies that provide safety, environmental, control and optimization benefits for aromatics manufacturing and technology projects.

Maintain developed knowledge and assure intellectual property is protected.

Develop documentation, awareness and application of lessons learned from process analytical projects and share within PTN.

Works closely with external analyzer systems suppliers to provide solutions for both BP owned / operated plants as well as sites owned/operated by licensees of BP technology.

Participates in and organizes Factory and Site Acceptance Tests for analyzer systems.

Degree in Analytical or Process Chemistry preferred. Will consider other degrees (e.g. Chemical Engineering with relevant experience).

  • At least 5 years of industrial process analytical hands on experience (beyond the highest degree level).
  • Demonstrated track record of deployment of process analyzers resulting in improved performance at the plant level.
  • Demonstrated track record of building networks with manufacturing and with third party analytical instrumentation and integration providers.
  • Experience with processes for project (e.g. TCVP) and change management (MOC) with successful use in project execution is preferred
  • Familiarity with P&ID's, sample handling systems, and engineering and analysis industry codes and standards.
  • Experience of applying data analysis techniques and statistics to industrial applications (i.e. classification, regression, data visualization).
  • Basic competence using some of the following software packages (or similar) is highly desirable - Matlab, Python, R, Pirouette, VBA.
  • Experience in applying analytical techniques (e.g. XRF, UV, VIS, NIR, IR, Raman, MS), chromatography (GC), and sensors at manufacturing sites.
