The role

Scottish Water requires a Procurement Specialist to join our Supply Chain team. Comprising 36 people, The team are responsible for the management of a supply chain which accounts for around £600m of SW’s annual expenditure. We have overall responsibility for managing c400 framework suppliers.

 The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that we meet our performance requirements and where possible, deliver additional value to Scottish Water.

 You will be expected to undertake the following:

  • The strategic sourcing of goods and services within the framework of EU procurement Regulations for Utilities.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to deliver cost savings and other benefit in support of Procurement and Supply Chain's business plan targets.
  • Effective Supply Chain Management in order to build and maintain a cohesive and effective supply chain that is not only fully integrated with Scottish Water and its partners, but delivers and exceeds the targeted value and efficiency in support of the business plan and Financial Outperformance Plan.
  • Managing and optimising business to business relationships (internally & within the supply chain).
  • You will have day to day responsibility for the supply of low value and/or tactical categories of goods and services, which includes the identification and management of risk and opportunities within these categories.
  • Process Management: providing and ensuring “CIPS Platinum Accredited” supply chain processes and systems, ensuring effective governance and ensuring audit and legal requirements are met.
  • Driving compliance to Scottish Water frameworks and supply chain management processes through analysis and interpretation of data, guidance and education for specific users.


To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate your ability to effectively influence stakeholders and suppliers at all levels. A proactive, ‘can-do’ approach and energy is essential to ensure delivery at pace and to a high quality. You will be able to demonstrate problem solving abilities; active listening skills and effective, tailored engagement approaches. It would be beneficial to be able to demonstrate experience in managing commercial relationships with third party organisations. Applicants are required to be either professionally MCIPS qualified or willing to work towards this, educated to degree level or have relevant experience.  This role is ideally suited to a graduate level candidate seeking a professional career in Procurement.


This role is being advertised on a permanent basis and you will work up to 37 Hours per week.
