Job Description

We put performance, pride and passion into everything we do, and every relationship. Those are the same qualities that we look for in our people. Right now, we’re looking for an Expert Technologist to bring precision and creative thinking to our Claims & Demo’s team (C&D), working alongside formulators and engineers in product development at our technology centre in Pangbourne. This rare and exciting opportunity has come about due to an internal promotion, which in itself is a positive story. It is a role with many facets, which is vital to creating lubricant product claims and defending these claims against external scrutiny by competitors and government agencies. The main responsibilities are:

  • Providing technical expertise, advice, guidance and coaching to Marketing, Legal and other functions in the development of product and brand propositions.
  • Creating and developing new product and product brand claims, in partnership with key stakeholders, and to create and manage the global substantiation of these.
  • To propose and collaboratively deliver projects within the C&D team generating materials supporting brand and product propositions.
  • To manage the creation of product demonstrations that illustrate our products’ behaviour and performance.
  • Managing key university projects that provide the underpinning science and substantiation for our claims.

Ideally, you’ll already have experience in lubricant qualification; a strong technical background; delivery and creativity in creating and communicating new insights and stories related to lubricant behaviour and performance. It is important that you are able to translate your technical position into engaging material. A history of successfully delivering new product development projects, and if you have previous experience of the automotive industry then so much the better. From an academic side, a degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Engineering is essential. Success in this role requires collaborative partnerships across many functions and you need to be able to make well-reasoned arguments to do with lubricant claims and substantiation. Last but not least, someone who relishes imparting technical knowledge and wisdom to others, through coaching and mentoring is vital.

We work to attract, motivate, develop and retain the best talent from the diversity the world offers – our ability to be competitive and to thrive globally depends on it. We believe success comes from the energy of our people, and creating an inclusive working environment where everyone can make a difference and give their best. BP, Castrol offers such an environment. Plus, you can expect state of the art facilities and a competitive remuneration package. Follow the link to view and apply.
