Role Summary

The Product Manager has primary management responsibility for developing comprehensive and integrated portfolio and commercial strategies for the various products within the English assessment business. This position, working in conjunction with members of the team, and with a keen understanding of the competitive/market landscape and customers’ needs, develops and executes the strategic direction and vision for the products within his or her remit.


Working closely with sales, marketing, technology, product development, and other teams the Product Manager is accountable for bringing to market English assessment products in response to address customer problems. They would be responsible for product planning activities including business justification, executing and managing implementation of commercial strategies and development and execution of product commercialization plans. The scope of this position encompasses currently available products and other products that have yet to be developed, but envisioned as part of the strategic planning process. This position will also be responsible for working across the matrixed organization to gain market/customer insight, and promote overall adoption, revenue and profitability for the products.

Key Activities Include:

  • Working with Geography sales teams to understand and articulate customer needs and collating problems into jobs to be done. Develop solutions and define product direction and vision to meet customer needs.
  • Create business plans and go-to-market product plans, using PLC methodology, that describe the value proposition, product strategy, commercialization strategy, and financial models to support the buying or building of products to fit into the English assessment product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, and market development to develop strategies and execute tactics to drive product adoption and success.
  • Monitor ongoing performance of products. Evaluate product performance and customer feedback and provide insight to product development team to refine future product releases.
  • Collaborate with product platforms and other development teams to develop solutions and capabilities. Influence technology roadmap and capabilities.
  • Liaise regularly with a cross functional working group to expand the footprint and success of the English proficiency assessment portfolio.

Required Knowledge and Experience

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • An advanced degree in Business or Marketing preferred (or relevant experience)
  • Experience in product management, product marketing, marketing or business development required
  • Experience in establishing and documenting a business case
  • Demonstrated business product strategy expertise with a successful record of bringing new products to market
  • Experience in education, and especially assessment, preferred
