About the team

The Modern Foreign Languages team produces resources for Secondary-age students and their teachers across a number of languages, but predominantly French, Spanish and German. Responsible for market-leading courses such as Expo, Metro, Mira, Studio, Viva and Stimmt, this is an opportunity to join the industry’s most successful languages team.

You would be working within a matrix team, with people from many different job functions - editorial, design, sales and marketing and external suppliers - coming together to commission and deliver brilliant resources for our MFL list. The role can be based in our Oxford or London offices and you would report into the Head of English, Humanities and Modern Languages.

About the role

We are looking for someone with a passion for education and languages and with a good knowledge of the Secondary schools market. The successful candidate will have the ability and passion to commission and develop teaching and learning content that really works in the classroom. You will be part of a friendly and high-performing team, working closely with and supported buy that team to understand customer and learner needs and create great resources for the Modern Languages list.

A day in the life of

During a normal working week you might engage in some of the below activities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the field of Modern Languages
  • Find, commission and work with key authors and internal and external teams to ensure timely launch of products and services
  • Develop content - whether it is print or digital - that really works in the classroom, and test that content with teachers and students
  • Carry out market research with teachers and students to understand customer needs
  • Translate these customer needs into winning product and service proposals
  • Build and seek approval of business cases for new products, including full financials
  • Liaise closely with our Sales and Marketing teams to devise winning campaigns and monitor the effectiveness of those campaigns
  • Manage budgets for your projects, ensuring tight cost control
  • Monitor the revenue performance of your titles.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

  • Someone educated to degree level (or equivalent) and fluent in one or more of French, German or Spanish
  • Someone who loves education and is passionate about creating resources that help students make progress in Modern Languages
  • Someone who would enjoy working with a close team to develop exciting new resources but equally willing to take responsibility and lead in their area of responsibility
  • Proven organisational /project management skills
  • Someone with recent teaching experience in the field of Modern Languages (desirable)
  • Someone with a passion for and experience of developing brilliant digital content for modern languages (desirable)
