About the Public Affairs and Stakeholder Relations Officer role

The Public Affairs team is part of the wider External Affairs Directorate and is responsible for delivering a programme of proactive strategic engagement with key stakeholders.

This role focuses on improving awareness and understanding of our work among political stakeholders in the UK and Welsh Parliaments, but also includes developing and maintaining productive relationships with other stakeholders in the legal and consumer sectors.

With sound political knowledge you will provide timely, high-quality briefings for our Chair, Chief Executive and Senior Management Team, ahead of political engagements. You will also produce a concise round-up of political activity to share with internal stakeholders in our weekly bulletin.

Using your first-class drafting skills, you will produce presentations and speaking notes for senior colleagues, tailored to each audience and in keeping with corporate messaging. There will also be the opportunity to write engaging social media content and support wider external communications campaigns.

What we expect

  • A public affairs professional, with demonstrable knowledge of politics, Parliament and the legislative process in Westminster and Wales
  • Stakeholder management skills, including the ability to develop relationships and deliver meaningful engagement
  • Experience of drafting presentations, speeches and briefings for senior staff
  • Experience of organising successful events
  • A strong communicator at all levels with the ability to work at pace

Please see the attached Role Profile for more details on the role and requirements.

Reporting to the Public Affairs Manager, this role can be based at our Head office in Birmingham, or at our London office. There is also the option to spend some days working from home.

Some travel between offices will be required. Other national travel, including overnight stays, may also be required when supporting events and conferences.

We are supportive of helping you achieve a balance between your personal and professional life and are happy to discuss scope for flexible working arrangements prior to interview, including providing examples of potential working patterns. If you would like to discuss the role, our culture or scope to work flexibly, we can arrange for this to happen - contact us to arrange a chat, in confidence at
