Job Description

The Rotating Equipment Planner is valued member of the Toledo Refinery Maintenance Team. As the Rotating Equipment Planner, you will be responsible for the identification and planning of maintenance work on rotating equipment in your area. You will collaborate with the operations team to improve the overall effectiveness and safety of the unit by providing detailed work plans and assuring all materials and resources are available prior to a job being scheduled for execution.

  • Sets performance standards for completing work and capturing work repair history on rotating equipment in order to provide data for continuous improvement in utilization and equipment reliability.
  • Responsible for reviewing the Work Request, ensuring consistency with refinery standards and facilitating resolution of inconsistencies
  • Checks Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for duplicate Work Orders and eliminates duplications
  • Identifies if a Management of Change (MOC) is needed for each Work Order and initiates (but does not necessarily lead) the MOC Process. Responsible for ensuring MOC process is completed (by others) for applicable Work Orders
  • Responsible for developing the job plans, schedule, cost estimate, manpower and equipment requirements for Unit Shutdowns
  • Responsible for developing the plans and estimates for Preventive Maintenance/Predictive Maintenance work as defined by Technical Specialists
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of a library of equipment and routine Job Plans
  • Identifies and communicates recurring equipment problems to appropriate Specialist and Asset Coordinator and supports efforts to eliminate future failures
  • Assures plans are reviewed by and appropriate input received from Field Execution, Operations, Inspection and Technical Specialists
  • Responsible for developing a detailed labor estimate and cost of the work including type of crafts, manhour estimates, materials, special tools, specialty contractors and transportation equipment
  • Responsible for interacting with Scheduler and Field Execution to assure cost effective and expeditious completion of Maintenance work
  • Integrates project and equipment changes into the Maintenance system, including spare parts and setting up equipment in CMMS
  • Responsible for managing the planning backlog for assigned area. Supports the Reliability Coordinator in managing the overall Maintenance backlog for assigned area
  • May fill in as a Maintenance Supervisor, other Planners or as a Maintenance Scheduler



  • A High School diploma of GED is required. An Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred



  • 5 years of experience with an Associate's Degree or 7 years of experience with a High School diploma
  • Experience working in rotating equipment maintenance, planning, turnarounds or in a craft in a refining environment
  • Strong computer skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
